i LOVE what these guys are doing with the charity donations. sure, $1 isn't much......but it piles up quickly. i wish more artists would follow suit.

however, i don't see myself catching any of these shows. MMJ doesn't do "it" for me. jim james has a great voice, and i think he's an above-average songwriter. but the guitars always sound too muddled and overly-distorted....i struggle to find good phrasing, solos, and the like. and the drummer......well, i'm not a fan.

perhaps i would like jim james solo, or MMJ acoustic, better. i'd love for someone to point me in the right direction to find some stuff from these guys that i can really connect with.

21mmer - If you are a fan of MMJ and haven't seen them live, just do it. You will not be disappointed. Sounds to me like you really aren't a fan though, so you probably shouldn't go. Not being negative, but If I was hesitant to see any show, I just wouldn't go.

This was over 4 years ago. Saw them about 3 years ago and than 3 weeks ago and they have just become a powerhouse.

youknowit......you're correct. i'm not really a fan. i just hear so many good things about them that i keep wanting to give them a chance......to see if i can connect with something that i may have missed. i did see them in concert ~1 1/2 years ago. it was pretty mediocre to my ears, and we actually ended up leaving early. that's why i was hoping that someone could point me to an exceptional show to listen to (i've heard the b-roo shows w/ the horns, etc. i'm really looking for a show w/ just the core band.).

Right on, I'm biased on this subject I will admit, Ever since their first record "Tennessee Fire", their music automatically struck a chord w/ me. So at a show I completely immerse myself. I don't know how anyone could get bored with the music even if they don't know anything about them, especially /w James runnin around in his cape and shredding into the front row and shooting his nintendo duck hunter gun. Couldn't pay me to leave a MMJ show. But to each his own.

...21mmer - if you want to connect w/ anything, I would highly recommend 'Dondante,' if you cant find something there, then you probably won't find it with this band. Doesn't matter whether its studio or any live version, get yerself some headphones and a dark room and get ready to take a ride...

Hot diggity freakin damn! I just drove for upstate NY to Maryland to see them and now they are playing in my backyard CMAC!

Could someone from the Merriweather Post Pavillion mail me my face if they find it? MMJ tore it off at the last show. It could be somewhere in the upper tree branches behind the lawn.

21mmer.

Here's some My Morning Jacket from 2000. The only surviving members are of course Jim James and Two Tone Tommy. Here you can hear the raw, laid back/head banging songs that put Jim James and Co. on the map. Plus there's an awesome rendition of Tyrone by Erykah Badu.

Here's a Jim James and M. Ward show from the St. David's Church in Austin Texas. The show is haunting and beautiful and...well, its perfect. Jim James solo is still something I have yet to see in my life, and I can not wait until he blesses me with his presence on the West Coast. Here's some video's of the band in full swing. Hope this helps showcase their eclectic sound. I know MMJ isn't for everyone, but like most great things, they grow on you and it is only over time you can see the big picture that is My Morning Jacket. Hope you enjoy.
