Looks like a good time! Wish i could've been there.

Why are there more posts on bisco boards than there are GD boards?

I would like to officially thank Papa for doing what no one else has ever done. Clearly a very special man, he has brought together two of my favorite music genres, the Dead and the NOLA funk (notably the Meters), mixed in some of his special swampfunk and created an amazing new sound. We are truly blessed to have experienced such wonderful shows.

Thank you, Malcolm.

Susan Weiland always takes great photos.

Saw these guys the night before in Crystal Bay. Looks like you all got an even bigger dose of Dead tunes. Love this whole band. I didn't know Porter was just subbing for the other guy. What a treat. One of my favorite base players with my favorite drummer. Papa Mali, or whatever his name is, is a genuinely nice guy . He hung out for quite a while , as did Kreutzmann, over at the side bar while the late band was playing and it was fun to see these guys sucking up the milieau of the place from the fan's perspective and just hanging out with their own friends. Fifteen years ago I would never have imagined that just a couple of days ago I would have skied half the day with my headphones and head filled with some of the Dead's best 72 Dark Star's , go home, take a nap, and be standing squarely in front of Kreutzmann's base and hi hat. The world never ceases to amaze.

Considering the big deal he made of divorcing himself from the dead to play more new music, that set sure had a lot of dead tunes...

I was thinking the same thing. You know Bill, there's another group of guys out there doing a whole bunch of these tunes, and, they could use a drummer capable of some raging tempos.

looks unoriginal to just do a lot of GD covers....maybe it is different upon hearing?

Papa Mali lives in Austin. He has NOLA in his press release cuz it looks good. Only residence he has in NOLA is somebody's couch while he acts like he's all NOLA funky trying to get in on every gig he can. An OK player though.
