I experienced the same thing with Assembly of Dust, where the name of a band makes them seem like a completely different band than what they actually are. Broken Social Scene is not a shitty emo band like their name might imply, they are a terrific experimental indie rock band. Personally, they are just the right amount of experimental for me, which is why I haven't really been able to get a grasp on Animal Collective quite yet. But anyway, if you have never checked these guys out, do it, theres a reason they are opening for Pavement.

right on peaton. so many, too many people gage good music upon what the band in question is associated with. Please Please EVERYONE give a listen to charles spearins (cofounder of BSS) the happiness project. it will no doubt change the way you think about music regardless of what sorta music you associate yerself with.

Awesome! Too bad they aren't coming to Philly. Hey if you haven't gotten into Animal Collective yet check out their video for "My Girls" on youtube. AMAZING!!!

Saw BSS in Omaha a year or two back. Phenomenal show. Saw Do Make Say Think two years ago - equally phenomenal. Check both bands out.
