I can assure you that I will never miss another JC ever again after FINALLY getting my cherry popped too. I feel you on that one Dennis!

All in all this is a festy lovers paradise. Seriously, if you love live music, this IS the event that you want to be at. It's like JazzFest and High Sierra, on a fu*king boat, with your own private cabin.

prices are definitely reasonable in that regard, and it is possible to do this trip on a budget. Definitely one of the most incredible and awesome experiences ever, and not to be missed. Hell, next year I think we're going to need a bigger boat, add another stage, and 10 more artists to the lineup.....~!

It was my first JC too. Playing in the Texas Hold 'em Tournament with Ivan to my right and Murph from STS9 to my left was a trip.

This review was wonderful and although words can't describe the experiences we had, this review came pretty close. And I'd have to agree, regardless of price, going on Jam Cruise was about one of the best decisions I made in my life. I went on the boat solo because none of my friends could afford to (little did they know where there's a will, there's definitely a way) and wasn't sure what to expect. I fell in love the second I stepped in line to go through customs. Everyone I met was extremely friendly and as soon as they heard it was my first Jam Cruise, I was immediately welcomed into the Jam Cruise family.

I was so so fortunate to have hung out with the people I did. Because of the people I met, I got to photograph the Murphy (STS9) and DJ Morale set on the last night of Jam Cruise, which was very exciting for me.

I took about 1400 photos over the week as I love photography. I wouldn't say I'm a photographer... just a fan dancing in the crowd with a camera in my hand. I love to share my photos and the experiences I've had. I've been told I've made more than several people smile with my Jam Cruise photos so I'd like to share them with you too. I hope you find yourselves in them too!

One more thing :) On the first day of this year in Miami, FL (after the 4 night Phish run), I was blessed with seeing a fully saturated double rainbow on North Miami Beach. I grabbed my camera and ran to the beach with the biggest smile on my face. I thought I was so lucky to see such a sight but on Jam Cruise on the first morning around 730AM...

I thought I was in heaven! Along with the beautiful sunrise peeking through scattered clouds over the clear blue ocean, I saw a fully arched rainbow that touched down from sea to sea. The boat, to me, was in the center of this rainbow and it looked as though as we were just passing through it. Back to being in heaven... I've never thought such a though before. I was the happiest saddest girl for all that I got to experience so far but wished that my close friends and family was there too to see this beautiful rainbow... I wished everyone in the world saw this.

As we sailed away from it, the rainbow began to evolve into a double rainbow <3

My camera couldn't fit in the entire rainbow and this is a horribly photoshopped picture, but here's the rainbow just in case you didn't get to catch it.. the third photo after that is one of the double rainbow :) !!

This is my best effort to share my pure blissful moment with everyone!

I'm still reeling - I've had my eye on this thing for, well, 8 years...and the stars finally aligned - out of school, good job, time off, and a fabulous partner to go with.

Dennis puts words to the experience with panache. Dig it. I had never been on board a cruise ship - it's a magnficent thing! 14 stories - and when you board, you funnel into this atrium, where a gorgeous white piano is featured at the bottom of a spiral staircase. Then there are the freaks filing in, spontaneously hooting and wigging out - some already in costume and READY. The pool is covered with a fiberglass dance floor. The lounges are decked out with a ton of equipment and decor. And the Teatro? Plush purple velvet on the seats, with lovely acoustics in the balcony. It was awesome.

As for sets of music - Lotus got a photo here but no mention, and had some wicked moments that emerged out of chaos. The Motet, Zappa and STS9 were my highlight sets. The jam room was always insane. And I loved the workshops - Maceo, Karl and Coffin talking "Sax Syntax" with demonstrations, and the interactive drum experience with Toubab Krewe were both stellar. Seeing Col Bruce in the casino and Skerik at the pizza bar...excellent. Microbrews were tasty too. But the Everyone Orchestra stood out as the coolest idea, with fabulous musical exploration and a good feeling for the attendees who offset the carbon footprint of their trip. So was it spendy? Yes. Did I feel blessed this year? Hell yes. Phish slayed and then the musical cruise of a lifetime, with a zipline excursion in Jamaica and snorkeling in Grand Cayman...I still can't get my feet on the ground.

Cjammer, in re: Johnny Grubb leaving RRE. Sorry to say, Johnny has left the bldg... RRE is auditioning new bassists as we spe... uh, type.

Dennis, as usual, loooved your review! Thanks for putting into words what others can only feel and not articulate. Great seeing you around the boat! You've turned me from a maybe to a fer shure for next year.

kolmah, I was wondering the same thing (ewww)

MilesGone, it's gonna take waaay more than a thousand bucks...

Which brings me to bar tabs. I heard one guy's was in the thousands, I walked past someone who said his was $900, but with some proper planning, mine was about $150...

Someone I met on Jam Cruise and their friends racked up close to 7000$ one year.

Chetrit123- Thanks so much! I just finished photographing Zach Deputy's concert in Orlando. My first concert photography gig.. wahoo.

Altacasta- Please go! Worth every penny and more.

Regarding bar tabs - again, $3.50 for good microbrews or a Heineken, $5 for a glass of wine, $7 for cocktails, $2.50 for an espresso drink...

If you calculate it out and buy the drink tickets as you board, it's not that bad. My gal and I paid $530, but that included the excursions - and I was handing out tickets for beer on the last night...I'd had enough to drink . . . !

Those who haven't been to Jam Cruise need to experience it at least once in their lives. Funny thing is once you go you can't ever imagine yourself missing it. This year I went to Bonaroo, Rothbury, 10,000 lakes and Telluride Bluegrass and I can honestly say none of those festivals are in the same league. Where else can you have a smoke and bs with Robert Walter while giving Karl Denson a high five as he walks to the Jam room?
