"The album's release was delayed while Petty and his distributor MCA Records argued about the list price. The album was slated to be the next MCA release with the new list price of $9.98, following Steely Dan's Gaucho and the Olivia Newton-John/Electric Light Orchestra Xanadu soundtrack. This so-called "superstar pricing" was $1.00 more than the usual list price of $8.98.[2] Petty voiced his objections to the price hike in the press and the issue became a popular cause among music fans. Non-delivery of the album or naming it Eight Ninety-Eight were considered, but eventually MCA decided against the price increase."

The Last DJ- lyrics

"Well you can't turn him into a company man

You can't turn him into a whore

And the boys upstairs just don't understand anymore

Well the top brass don't like him talking so much,

And he won't play what they say to play

And he don't want to change what don't need to change

There goes the last DJ

Who plays what he wants to play

And says what he wants to say, hey hey hey...

And there goes your freedom of choice

There goes the last human voice

There goes the last DJ

Well some folks say they're gonna hang him so high

â'Cause you just can't do what he did

There're some things you just can't put in the minds of those kids

As we celebrate mediocrity all the boys upstairs want to see

How much you'll pay for what you used to get for free

There goes the last DJ

Who plays what he wants to play

And says what he wants to say, hey hey hey...

And there goes your freedom of choice

There goes the last human voice

And there goes the last DJ

Well he got him a station down in Mexico

And sometimes it'll kind of come in

And I'll bust a move and remember how it was back then

And there goes the last DJ

Who plays what he wants to play

And says what he wants to say, hey hey hey...

And there goes your freedom of choice

There goes the last human voice.

And there goes the last DJ "

I gotta say the whole on-line "tour" thing is kind of silly but Tom Petty kicks ass live and I'm sure this set will as well. I'll probably pass on the one track at a time thing but I'll get this when it comes out. The Running Down A Dream DVD is excellent.

I'll admit that I joined and it is kind of a "sell out" tour. I'll buy anything that he does. Can't wait for the next real tour--maybe this coming summer?
