Omar Rodriguez Lopez: Genius Set Free
Having already released four solo albums and the new Mars Volta record this year, Omar might be the most prolific rock star alive. Come on in and get to know a future legend...

calling omar rodriguez a guitar god is insulting- to actual guitar gods: i,e. Pat Metheny, Randy Rhodes, Eric Johnson, Mattias IA Eklundh; All true "heros" and "gods" to me.

BX is mad because Omar kisses better than his daddy.

Man. Y'all don't like Omar? I honestly didn't see that coming. Not that you have to. But wow. He blazes and I mean that in a completely non-drug-related way. The Volta is like Grizzly Bear for me - or like the Dead probably was for many of us on our first listen. It's at a level that you need to give a few more chances. You taste something...you don't know if it tastes like poop or like chocolate cheesecake. But if you don't keep tasting, you're never gonna know. I leave you with this thought: eat the cheesecake.

His shit is alright in doses. Gets old after awhile but good to listen to every now and then. Still would like to check out Mars Volta live though.

ok, whatever. the only person on this thread with something to say was Cola21. But seriously. This was a great article. I have been lisening to Volta since they first released deloused. it was a beautiful record to open the story of TMV. They have completely challenged all people that have listened to them. Unlike when I first heard At the drive in I loved everything off of deloused. from front to end. and my favorite was the last track which is only "slow" song on the record. They continue to amaze me from frances to ampetectuar to bedlam to octa. every album has been phenomenal. I was very sad when Jon Theodore was removed but was very intrigued to hear the new stuff. I think Pridgen gives them a completely different texture than Jon but it is still delicious. I love TMV and for many more reason than just the sound. The energy is so compelling and by far the most captivating of progressive music today. I think Omar is very derainged but I applaud him for what he has done and will continue to look forward to the next chapter of Volta. Octahedron is very different than the previous Volta albums but that is what I love about them. They keep growing, as do I. I love the work Omar and look forward to the next tour/record. Keep it up man. Not sure why you got rid of Adrian, but I know you know what you're doing. See ya soon.

I was a hardcore Mars Volta fan for years. Then this past October Volta came to Phoenix, Arizona. Not only did they ONLY play a hour long set, but i paid 45 dollars to see these fuckers. When lights came up we all thought it was intermission. I am pretty sure in one night Volta lost about 500 Phoenix fans (me being one of them). Even our local newspaper the Phoenix New Times called them out. When they asked the tour manager why the show was cut short he said Cedric was having a "bad night." Paying MY very hard earned money to see pompous rock stars spit in my face makes me want to vomit in my mouth. Ohhh and by the way i couldn't even hear the other guitarist in Volta because Omar is such an EPIC guitarist they don't need another one in the band. Adrian was good; but yet again got lost in the Volta sound, because there were too many of them on stage. Adrian will do great things elsewhere hopefully where he can be heard........

I miss Jon Theodore, his drumming was innovative as hell... everything after Frances the Mute is kind of weird to me, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing yet. All I know is Deloused and Frances are two of the most amazing albums I've ever heard, period.

Word, Adam. If anyone out there doubts, give a listen to the first two tracks from Deloused, and "L'via La'viaquez" from Frances the Mute, and I would love to hear your thoughts, good or bad. In my mind, it's wild and hot.

I like you say Outkast will be left standing and "probably Trey" ☮

Omar is highly innovative & obviously ahead of his time. So sad that people don't know how to grasp his style of playing.

Also, I do agree that letting go of Adrian was a huge mistake, b/c his psychedelic playing definitely was a staple in the Volta's jazz influenced jams; and very much what drew me into the band several years ago. Adrian is still playing around in Mexico...
