oh so glad to not see any haters. i saw the dan a couple summers ago with michael mcdonald opening, and the entire show was quite fantastic! even michael mcdonald rocked his way out of the cheesiness that michael mcdonald naturally envokes, but there was nothing cheesy about the dan at all! whether you like their songs or not, they play them PERFECTLY, and that's no exaggeration. any musician has a lot to learn from the dan.

Shame on jambase for this fraud. maybe they think every Steel Dan show is the same, but those pics are not from St Augustine, wonder if the review and setlist are from a different show too.

crap...hate to be a "hater," but...I know it's not feasible, but the original musicians on those records were nasty, nasty players. Down and dirty, supremely talented jazz players. I'm sure these people playing with them are fine musicians, but i can't lose the feeling of "jazz light" when i think about Steely Dan the last handful of years.

Maybe i'm wrong, but it's just the way it's felt the last few years. I will check this out though, maybe it's changed.

I caught the Orange Beach show and the setlist was very similar. However, they played "Deacon Blues" to the delight of the Alabama crowd and got everyone rowdy. One of the better shows I've seen in quite a while.

Excellent review. I was there and the fans were nuts. This is about my 10th Dan show, and I have never seen a crowd this involved. It's a double edge sword (guy next to you singing when you are trying to hear Donald) but it is hard to complain about an involved crowd. Just a quick correction. The backup singer were Tawatha Agee, Carolyn Leonhart-Escoffery and Catherine Russell. Janice Pendarvis was not in St Augustine, and is only with the band for the European concerts.

BTW, it's "Book keeper's son", not "Pool keeper's son". Pool keeper? Nice review otherwise.
