This was my fifth bonnaroo and I personnally rank it as my second favorite right after 06. I have no idea what you all are talking about security being tight. This was the most lax i have seen it since 04. Me and the rest of my group walked in everyday with large packs everyday and no one even acknowledged that we exsisted. It got to the point where each of us would have a six pack plus our party favors and never once worried about it. If anyone was stupid enough to buy fake favors then they got what they deserved. With the exception of paper it was pretty easy to tell. Besides all that the music was amazing. I did not see a single bad show. Yea there were a bunch of kids but that's the way it goes, they are the new guard. I was only sixteen when I went to my first fest. Do you really want a bunch of old washed up farts who don't know how to have fun anymore? Here's to Bonnaroo going another ten years.

pj... Would "a bunch of old washed up farts who don't know how to have fun anymore" actually go to a music festival? While I may agree the kiddies are more entertaining (I've never seen old farts get drunk, spin, and stumble face first into the mud) I think you're wrong about the elders... I think they know how to have fun, and prove it by continuing to show up. You won't hear them bitching about fake drugs or getting busted, because they know better! They avoid trouble and perpetuate the fun by bringing their own and keeping it down. The kids on the other hand, who you think "know how to have fun", often cause trouble for themselves and others... they bring the fake drugs ("old farts" have the BEST stuff!) and almost always attract security (go figure!) It seems to me these kids are just looking for a place to get "tore up". History has shown that more of these kiddies show up as we integrate commercialism and mainstream "music" into the scene... I just hope Rothbury doesn't get spoiled by your "new guard"... although many of them can handle it, and will be welcomed into the fold, their cohorts will certainly be the cause of any problems you see!

haha, some of these comments sound like my grandma, "you darn kids and your rock music and marijuana cigarettes!" i went in '05 and said i'd never go back, and i went back. took it a little easier, but i understood that it was some other people's first times, and when they bumped me or whatever, i let it slide. its bonnaroo. there are 80K people. its not like you didn't know there would be tons of spinners and mud. also, as far as security complaints, manchester may be in the middle of nowhere, but its still america, not some sovereign nation where anything goes. i'm not a bruce fan, but bruce with phish was epic. finally, my back hurts after that weekend, anyone wanna trade back rubs?

Superb work Kayce (super-fast sleep deprived turnaround on the recap) and Rob (seriously stellar pics - that girltalk pic oozes life - nipple slip and all)

We are all young - we are all old - we all love live music. Perhaps try to inspire the next generation of music fans to absorb music and throwdown at the party as you have so expertly learned over years of going pro on tour.

Bonnaroo kicked ass once again in '09! Phish at roo was special and they played great, maybe not the best shows of the tour (I was also in camden which was insane!) but thier bonnaroo sets were damn good and phish with springsteen is a once in a lifetime treat.

Im just suprised nobody is talking about that moe. set!!!!!!!!! it was off the charts awesome, lasted till dawn, featured brock butler (who wasn't even on the bill at bonnaroo), and had grace potter switch with the band during setbreak for a non-stop party that I wont soon forget!

Set I: Plane Crash> Tailbone> Spine Of A Dog> Not Coming Down> Wormwood> Deep This Time, Wind it up> Seat Of My Pants> Happy Hour Hero> Recreational Chemistry1> Ramblin Man1 2> Recreational Chemistry1 3

Set II: Lazarus3> George> Skrunk> Jazz Wank> Cathedral> Rebubula

Encore: The Pit4

1 w/ Brock Butler from Perpetual Groove

2 sung by Brock Butler

3 band switch with Grace Potter and the nocturnals for moe.'s 'setbreak'

4 with 'setbreak' the show's total length was approximately 4:40 (~1:20am - 6:00am)

That whole "were we at the same festival?!" sentiment is appropriate here. Security was fine and I only ran into one bad line the whole weekend - Friday going into Centeroo at like noon. Also, when you have 80k people, you're going to get 80k individual experiences, which leaves a lot of room for variation.

For me, this was my 6th Roo and second only to 2006 as far as my own personal experience goes. Knox>Roo were my first Phish shows and it'd be an understatement to say I was blown away. Bruce was incredible and his band sounded great! Plus, his interaction with the crowd was better than any headliner I've ever seen.

Todd Snider, AA Bondy, Al Green, Booker T & the DBTs -- all highlights.

They pulled it off bigger and better than ever before.

I hate this article....(nice pictures though)...

hate this writer (cus homie doesn't know shit about good music)

and am growing a srong dislike for Bonnaroo.... cus where are all the hippies at?

how bout we have two festivals... one for all the taboo bands and people that think bonnaroo is 'cool'

and one for the real bands that jam and true music lovers that listen to these bands...

that way 70'000 people can go be cool

and the 10'000 of us can have the time of our life....

yeah .. and no mention of moe... in any article.... f***in idiots

I don't mean to correct anyone, but Phish played the NO Jazz Fest on 4.26.2006--my first show. That counts as a festival, huh?

Bonnaroo>everything......the lineup is so eclectic you can't bitch about it. If you don't enjoy being turned on to new music and new friends then don't go. Thanks to everybody I met this past weekend, it was incerdible and something that I WILL NEVER FORGET. If you must complain please stay away and go to rothbury, wakarusa, summer camp, and all the other jamband festivals....that way you don't get turned on to new music, you can listen to the same shitty bands, and make sure you take the right drugs so it is possible to enjoy the three shit bands you always listen to. I realize that this site is called jambase, but damn you guys need to visit a fuckin' record store. Good article and nice pictures.

Bonnaroo is a great festival. I went the first 3 years and haven't been back since. I prefer the smaller festivals now where I can see more music and less time traveling between stages to catch only a few songs before heading to the next act.
