"Ten years after winning the distinguished Mercury Music Prize for their debut, Bring It On, Gomez has yet to live up to that standard, at least not in this critic's opinion." This is your opinion, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, I think it is great for you to share this with us. But I would disagree.... Gomez, is one of those bands that is very hardworking and they have had great albums since Bring it on. Split the Difference and In Our Gun are both superb albums... I obviously am slanted and I like just about all of their stuff... But to say that they have yet to live up to a standard that they themselves set with Bring it on is a weird way of saying, you dont dig em. I can understand that... But the reality is that they are experimental, pop, rock, they work hard and play well together... but then again critics are a dime a dozen, and as I remember, the GD, WSP and many other bands were never the critics choice...

Well I agree that they have made some good albums since Bring it on; Liquid Skin may be my favorite. I am riding the fence between the review and this first thread posted. I listened to this new album once through the day it came out and have yet to have it play since. I had the same experience with How We Operate. I think both these albums are pretty boring. I liked Split the Difference and the one that came before; Split the Difference, but their last most recent two albums are lacking any real creative juices as compared to their first three albums. The difference between their earlier years and later years are plainly obvious.

I agree with the writer, but I would say the first two albums were their high point. The next few still good, In our Gun especially, but not the rawness and great songs of the first. And this one, well I listened to it, forced myself to listen to it again, and it has been shelved ever since. At least with all the other records, I wanted to hear the songs again. But A New Tide has only one song I truly enjoy. I used to think of Gomez as the new American Band. (I know) But now they are turning into unlistenable radio pop.
