Reed Mathis: Vernal Gratitude
One of today's most gifted musicians discusses his departure from JFJO, his role in TLG and producing perhaps the Fred's finest album, including a full breakdown for Winterwood...

Class Act. I met him on a few occasions, but the last time was classic. Went to Columbus for a Volta show and TLG was playing across the street. It was early in the day, I approached the venue Volta was playing and Reed was just walking outside. I was wearing a Fred shirt, and we carried on for a while, he treated me as if I was an old friend.

You are one of the best Reed, can't wait to catch you with jFJo again in the future.

Reed is terrific. My favorite project of his the version of Steve Kimock Band with Robert Walter & Rodney Harris. Blew my mind!

Yes, he's a very cordial approachable guy. When he was touring with Kimock's band and they were playing the Fox in Boulder the venue's power blew mid-set(wild watching them slow down to a stop with no power - like watching a spaceship come out of hyper-drive) and Reed just hopped down from the stage and started hanging out and chatting.

I wish TLG was coming back to Waka next week!!

Great read, Dennis. Reed IS a class act. He's very humble and loves to play. Can't wait to see what's in store for the future!

reed mathis is a golden god. not a bass player, but rather a virtuoso who happens to play the bass.

love him with the fred, love him with kimock, love him with TLG.

best bassist of his generation??

debatable, but would definitely get a nomination from me.

poncho to X-factor, over and out

Reed really is a humble and kind human being. It's so great to see him profiled in such a way after seeing him play and grow and having the opportunity to share countless conversations about music and life over the last ten years in Tulsa.

Thank you Dennis!

I echo everything said about Reed, couldn't be more true. I love how he compared the fred to a lion stalking and eating am antelope, awesome!

TLG is playing 2 shows @ 10klf. Too bad they are at 4:00pm Friday & 2:00pm Satruday. I would love to see them get a late night slot.

They closed Bella Madre Fest. last weekend & were fantastic!! I think they won over alot of new fans at that show. Use Promo code 201985 for discount 10klf tics.
