ABB played the standards and a great (new?) instrumental...but Revival, Statesboro, Liz reed with Les Brers tease...good Mornin lil school girl, etc....killer set, great vibe, the Friday night party, with fireworks and cheers was killer...the Dead started strong...great versions of good tunes....but (and this was my second show of the tour), the space was longer this time and was very digital (think, digital spoken words as in floyds momentary or division bell, maybe, while the drums/space went on) yet funky at times, but it seemed to take the winds out of the fans and the bands sails...but overall....it is the gorge...and it is two great bands...and lots of great fans...everyone had a good time...

It would have been nice to see them jam together for old times sake but perhaps "old" is the word? But I'm taking nothing away from these great performers and the great shows they played. Plus, I suppose Warren proved he can be in two places at once!

Really fun time at the Gorge...Doobie Brothers kicked it off with a strong set of all their hits- first time I have seen them and I loved every minute of it. All American good time rock and roll played to perfection. Next was the Allmans and I have to say they got my vote for THE BEST band in the world. Holy shit, they rocked! Started off with a 20-30 minute Mountain Jam that went so far out we forgot what song it was. Their set must have been almost three hours long. Every song a masterpiece of musicianship. At anytime during the show one could stop and look around and realize how fucking AMAZING the view was from anywhere in the venue. I have been to alot of great concert venues, but this by far is the most spectacular I have seen. After a nice break the Dead came on as the sun was setting over Whiskey Dick Mountain- actual name! Expectations and energies were very high, but unfortunately, I felt like the band had whiskey dick from the get-go. Songs were played at almost half speed, jams were somewhat directionless, and Bobby did his best to butcher some of my favorite Jerry songs. There were definately a couple magic moments, but overall the vibe was just not quite up to par. The boys seemed tired. It just seemed to lag more and more as the night went on until Bobby got us going for One More Saturday night. Looking around I could see folks getting the juice they were looking for, but this was to be the set closer. After a sweet little speech by Phil we got a nice Box of Rain to send us home all nostalgic, yet not quite satisfied. After such a blistering set by the Doobies and Allman Bros. the Dead were just a little too spacey for the overall vibe of the day. Anyway, we had a great itme and thoroughly enjoyed the scene and the venue and seeing friends. I will catch the Allman Bros. anytime I get the chance. As for the Dead, this was a definate period on the end of this long, strange trip for me with the Boys.
