brings to mind a quote i heard once:
"Dave Matthews Band is like a shitty lite beer: At its worst, its really, really, bad, and at its best, it just leaves you wanting more"
at least NY is far, far away from where I live!

First off Jambase our website has become watered down and less accessible/more difficult to navigate. We need to change the format back to what it was and yes the comment section was a s*it show but it was entertaining anyway and sometimes even had value. Next, how can anyone honestly hate so incessantly on this band? True, they don't jam that long really often but this is compensated for lyrically - which is where other bands simply cannot compete. The jams themselves do differ night to night, tour to tour, along with their set lists. There is a grand evolution of song. They've been through it all folks and have never once taken a "hiatus" from touring and this is my main point. In our modern era (post 1984), name a band that toured more than DMB. Phish? I know I love Phish too, but there has been some drama. There are definitely some that come readily to my mind as well but again, lyrically those bands just can't compete.

Wow the hate that this band gets is beyond me. What other band has toured relentlessly summer after summer for the past, oh I don't know 12 years!!! All the while evolving musically and changing there sound constantly. I think Jim is right, hating on DMB is the "heady" thing to do. All the while those "heady" folk are missing out on night after night of some amazing musicianship. Oh but wait, DMB shows are full of frat boys and sorority sluts, hahaha, get a clue sketchy ass wooks. We don't like your kind on tour with us anyway.

coming on here just to comment on how shitty dmb is...isn't that pretty much what we hate about the preppy frat boys that follow him around? if you dont like dave, then just don't post a comment. how fuckin hard is that?! it's ok to be a dave hater but throwing it in all the fans faces makes you more of a dick than the preps. i'm a dead head and a phish phan and i love keller just as much as everybody else. but there are only a handful of bands that can put on a better show than dmb. no matter where they play they always bring the heat. they even played the night after leroi died. that's loyalty folks. i didn't see dead do that when jerry died. after phish fucking up their ticket sales for the reunion and the summer tour, and the dead selling tickets for $100, i'd take a $40 dave ticket anyday.

it is def. the "heady" thing to do. All the heady people I know bash on DMB all the time. I get crap for liking Dave a good amount of the time.
Whatever. they are a great band people can just deal with it.
but all the frat dudes and sorostitues at the shows really are awful. I stopped going to shows because of them

Why would you quit going to shows because of "frat dudes and sorostitues?" Create your own scene and if anything appreciate the fact that the DMB scene isn't the total sausage fest that many jambands have.

i'll pass on hanging with sorority girls. and i just got tired of dealing with drunk assholes in pink polos.
Also, I have seen plenty of DMB shows and after LeRoi died it wasnt the same for me.
I still love the band just dont feel the urge to travel to the shows.

DMB... Sigh..OK, so back when Dave was playing Further fest and playing 10 minute "Eyes of the World" DMB wasn't THAT bad, though they were never anywhere close to being a 'jamband', for whatever that's worth. 12 years later, with all the great, horrible, and in-between jambands out there, DMB can only be considered- by their MUSIC- a college pop/rock band. Granted, the band members have musical talent, and Dave IS a hell of a songwriter and an above-average singer, but the band's following and scene is about as bad as you'll find for supposedly 'jam' music. Nowadays, the shows are packed with high school kids and younger, parents in tow, and plenty of idiotic university kids. Granted, there are lots of cute girls in attendance, but my lord are they DUMB AS HELL!!! Not a cool scene AT ALL!!
My two favorite DMB memories from the post-Further era: I worked at a restaurant in Tampa in '99 where he started summer tour that year, and Dave & Co. came in for dinner. Dave's manager demanded that Dave drink ONLY a specific sized Evian bottled water, and required that the server send someone to the grocery store to get it. NOT requested, but said they'd leave without it. Prima-donna BS! After all that, Dave picked up the check for the party of 4, about $150, and left less than 12% tip for pretty good service!
Secondly, I got dragged to a show at the Greek in Berkeley a couple of years later, a 'Dave & Tim Renolyds' show. I only went b/c Tim R. is an AMAZING guitar player and I wanted to see him shred. I shit you not, the fratboys BOO'd them off the stage because they weren't playing the tunes EXACTLY like they were on the albums- they hated any improv and guitar work by Tim! It was such a shame, cause they were really ripping it up (tim was anyways...) What a lame bunch of douchebags! Dave told the crowd that they would leave if they didn't stop acting like children, the drunk assholes continued, and the show lasted less than 45 min! DMB, the way the music and scene deteriorated over the years is very similar to Ben Harper, who WAS also fairly bad-ass at one point, and is now college sell-out nonsense.
