Wish I could see these guys. Definitely on my list of bands to see before I die. Not really sure we needed the suggestion of which drugs to take for the show, I can decide that on my own thank you very much.

admittedly, i am unfamiliar with mogwai, so i cannot necessarily comment on their music or live concerts. however, not only does this review not give me a particularly good sense of mogwai's sound/show (extremely vague descriptions and comparisons don't cut it), but the author at no point 'puts me in the moment' or brings anything forward that is interesting, intriguing, or captivating. also, lines like "This was more of a set for someone smoking lots of weed rather than someone who'd been snorting coke (which certainly isn't a bad thing." are totally unnecessary. not only are most of us out of high-school, but dropping specific drug-references is irresponsible and has nothing to do with the music. come on jambase.

Great band. Wasn't at the show so can't comment on that specific show. Don't understand the drug references. It is perfectly fine for the author to comment on only being interested for 45 minutes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's ok to really enjoy music and then leave before it's over when you've had your fill. It's not a sporting event. You don't have to see who is going to win.

Why's everyone on the reviewer about drug references? who cares? it's a casual review about a rock show. "irresponsible"? The guy's not reviewing a children's play - he's reviewing a show by a trippy shoegazer band. Lighten up! errr, light up!

if you are going to compare Mogwai to shoegazers (which i don't agree w/ ), it's a crime to not have tied in their epic closer of "My Father, My King" and it's ending feedback squall to My Bloody Valentine's 'noise holocaust' section of "You Made Me Realise."
This was a great show; was super-psyched to hear "Killing All The Flies" again. great band, i saw 'em the next night as well.

Depite the ambiguity of the article and the unnecessary drug references, I see where the author is coming from. It paints a picture similar to what I experienced at the Omaha NE show on Monday. The whole vibe in general didn't really do it for me. The music itself is pretty good, but I guess I don't understand their world-wide success. Also, the strobe lights were way too bright and over used. BTW - the bartender said that the band was complaining that it wasn't loud enough and that the sound system sucked. My ears were ringing for three days, and this was at Slowdown (owned by Saddle Creek Records), which has a top-notch system. Bring your earplugs and sunglasses!
