So, I'm trying 2 find the craziest, weirdest, trippiest, epic Dark Star the boys ever played. If you guys want, we could make this a contest. I'm gonna start out with

4/24/72- Rheinhalle, Dusseldorf, West Germany

Dark Star>Me & My Uncle> Dark Star>Wharf Rat>Sugar Mag

This one blows my mind. Starts off slow and picks up, waiting about a good 10 minutes till Jerry sings the first verse, "Dark Star crashes...", and continues on in one of the most out-there jam I've ever heard any band play ever, and Jerry is just so ON it this night, as he was most nights that year, shit... that decade. Then the most random sandwich ever where they suddenly hold a particular rhythm, and maintain it, and suddenly you hear Bobby start singin' the most out -of-leftfield song ever, and then once the song ends, they're quickly back to the sweet ether of Dark Star and continue into the most ambient space ever, and into a classic, classic Dead show staple...

a quote from the top-tier dead shows thread:

February 11 and 13, 1970, Fillmore East

The 11th featured an epic Dark Star>Spanish Jam>Lovelight with Peter Green almost the entire Allman Brothers Band jumping in over the course of an hour until there were 25ish people onstage for the climax.

Each of the four sets played on Feb. 13 is outstanding, but the final one contains what many believe to be the best Dark Star of all time, and rightfully so... the whole second set is on Dick's Picks vol. 4, some of the songs from earlier sets are on Bear's Choice, and the rest is here:

Extra note on the 13th's Dark Star: my first time ever listening to the Dead on acid, I chose this particular track because I had vague recollections of how sprawling and textured it was from the only couple of times I'd heard it before... don't even know if I made it all the way through the 28 minutes before. But this time, I finally understood why the Dead are such a big deal. Right afterward I put on Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and drifted off into the most blissful sleep of my life. Happy listening!
