Record Labels.........

.........not the majors

Does anyone else here buy albums strictly because of what record label their on?

I do a lot of actual record store shopping. Now, some of you young kids might not know what I'm talking about. There's these wonderful places called "record stores", that sell physical copy's of band's music. Not to many exist anymore, but if you find one, give it a shot.

I often go in with no idea of what i want to buy, so i start in A and move towards Z. If i find something that looks interesting, i rely on the record label to make the final decision.

Here are some that you usually can't go wrong with:

Ipecac (Mike Patton's label)

Web Of Mimicry (Trey Spruance's label)

Def Jux (El-p's label)

Rhymesayers ( Slug and friends label)

GSL aka Gold Standard Laboratories (Sonny Kay's label)

Three One G (Justin Pearson's label)

Loosegroove (Stone Gossard's label)

Ropeadope (Logic's label)

Cryptogramophone (Jeff Gauthier's label)

Anticon (Dose one, Jel, Yoni wolf and friend's label)

Ninja tune (Coldcuts Label)

Greenleaf (Dave Douglas' label)

Thrill Jockey

1320 records

Crass Records

Relapse records

Here are some that you could go wrong with, but still have a lot of good stuff.

Tzadik (John Zorn's label)

Anti (Epitaph's sister label)

Blue Note (Legendary Jazz label)

Hyena (Home of JFJO and Mike Dillion's GoGo Jungle)

Knitting Factory records

Accurate (released early JFJO and MMW)

Anyone else buy stuff just because of the label it's on? I would love to know.

For all you old timers there are these things called downloads, where you dont have to go anywhere and sometimes they are even free, You can even stream music. Try it out. These "Record stores" you speak of sound strange....

Good call on Web of Mimicry, everything on there is righteous!

Stones Throw and Rhymesayers are good too, I get my DOOM stuff from them.

I'll have to check out Ipecac, love some Patton
