Hang on a second here, there are some of you who think Pretty Lights doesn't qualify as electronic dance music? Please explain.

Pretty Lights isn't bad, he's just entry level electronic music.

I'm not that bummed about missing it. I'm sure it was great and I wanted to go but my motivation to hear old school dubstep has waned a bit.

Decibel second lineup announcement 6/4. Pretty stoked to find out what else they are bringing.

“[Borowski's] simplistic dynamics and preset loops would drag for 16, 32, or even 64 bars at a time,” says clubber Daniel Hirsch.

“It’s doesn’t really surprise me that he was murdered.”

I'm going to assume that the hate for pretty lights stems primarily from his popularity and not his actual music. Maybe I'm wrong on this but some of PL's music is so damn groovy and cool I can't help but think that other people are hearing that too. Not to mention that his sound in general was such a breath of fresh air when it 1st came out.

sold my ticket to NCMF last year for 40$ the day PL played. Basically paid for the festival itself. PL is very meh live. I do dig some of his albums tho.

Everyone's tastes are different and music is subjective. To each his own but the way I see it is: I've been listening to house, techno, D&B(jungle), trance, and breaks since the early 90's. Those genres got explored every which way to Sunday throughout the 90's and for almost 10 years nothing new really happened until the PLs and basnectar types came around with the other wompy stuff and brought something new to the table. I can't help but roll my eyes a bit when I hear someone saying that house and techno are "going somewhere" while PL is recycled crap. That is kind of the opposite of what has really transpired in the big picture.

I don't really see how that's the opposite, early Pretty Lights stuff could have come strait from Ninja Tune in the early 90's, he's def taken that sound in new directions though as he's developed, no denying that. But I don't think the progression in sound from people like Bassnectar and PL is really as interesting or forward thinking as what's happening in the "house/techno/bass" scene, of course that is just an opinion though. A lot of The house and techno being made now is this wierd dark hybrid of garage and dubstep which has really refreshed the house scene imo. People like Four Tet, Boddika, Joy O, George Fitzgerald, Objekt and Scuba are def making house and techno that's "going" somewhere imo.
