Terrance Simien's Profile

About me:I tour and record with my group Terrance Simien & The Zydeco Experience. My family is documented as one of the first families in the 1700's to settle St. Landry Parish, deep in Creole country south Louisiana. Some call south this region south of i-10 in Louisiana "The Northern Rim of Carribbean" as a reference to our strong and unique Creole cultural identity. I've been touring and performing since I was 16 and this year 2011, marks my official 30th anniversary since my first paid gig at the National Guard Christmas party in Oakdale, LA in 1981. And I've been recording so long I've got more than one 45 vinyl in my discography! Since then me and my band mates have toured to more than 40 countries, delivering over 6000 performances and traveled literally a million miles by van and I lost count on the air travel miles! We've shared studio/stage with the meters, Dr. John, Dave Matthews Band, Los Lobos, Robert Palmer and Paul Simon to name a few. We've had music in several feature films including a Disney film, "The Big Easy" and will be on screen in Warner Bros. studio film out later this year or early next year. Over 10 years ago we developed an arts education program called Creole for Kidz & The History of Zydeco and have presented this to over 500,000 students all over the world. In 2007 we were successful in leading an effort to establish a GRAMMY category for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music album. In 2008, at the 50th GRAMMY awards we took home the gold for Louisiana.
