thEapExthEory's Profile

About me:Evolving into a trio in March of 2004 with Art Karamian taking on vocals and guitar, Sammy J. Watson on drums, and David Hakopyan on bass, the apex theory harnessed their unique chemistry into their first self-released EP as a three-piece, inthatskyissomethingwatching. Blending the spirit of rock, the dynamic nature of drum n’ bass, jazz & world music, along with the spontaneity of experimental noise, the apex theory have always distinguished themselves with their musical integrity and artistic perspectives. Previously credited for taking the rock genre in bold new directions, the group’s 2002 DreamWorks release Topsy-Turvy was hailed by The New York Times as “an astonishing hard rock debut [with] brutish riffs, propulsive poly-rhythms, graceful melodies” while Rolling Stone Magazine described it as "whirling, exotic… further expanding metal's rhythmic palette". 2004’s inthatskyissomethingwatching EP -- showcased the revamped and revitalized band in peak form, catching the attention of national & local press, some of whom considered the songs to be among the group’s best ever. Modern Drummer Magazine noted in a review: “The combination of solid musical interplay, the fusion of emo, grunge, and punk, and the set’s sheer ferocity makes this exceptional brand of progressive metal rhythmically explosive.” As a testament to the band’s live show, Meanstreet Magazine stated “The Apex Theory’s muscular, working class alt-metal is one of L.A.’s best live tickets”, while Los Angeles City Beat recently raved “the band inhaled the embalming fluid out of the crowd and spat blood back in” performing the “simple miracle of unhinging its audience.” Currently, the band has confirmed its role as co-owners of TOYS.of.the.MASSES, an Independent Label Entity they have co-founded with old friend & fan, John Dolmayan, (System of a Down). TOYS.of.the.MASSES has recently signed a digital distribution deal with INgrooves and have released the LIGHTPOST EP, a 15 minute visual piece with guest musician, Master of the Armenian Duduk, Djivan Gasparian… Lightpost finds the band experimenting with more intricate rhythms and spacious melodies, while never losing any of their trademark intensity. This release will be followed by a Full-Length entitled “FACES” due out by Summer of 2007… With a constant push towards the next stage, the apex theory continue to breathe new life into themselves by resonating a distinct mixture of heartfelt energy and sound.
