About me:Carmen Caruso is an experimental composer and a talented vocalist who has been known to shriek, moan, grunt, and almost become possessed during performance. She creates sonic collages using electronics and her voice, and continues to probe the grey area between pop and experimental music. Some of her influences include chamber pop, alternative dance, 60s rock, indie electronica, modal music, sound poetry, ambient-techno, drum ‘n’ bass, the experimental avant-garde, and minimalism. Her music has been featured at the Laila Lounge in New York, the OUTPOST in Boston, the Chosen Vale International Trumpet Seminar, the Boston CyberArts Festival, the Spheris Gallery, and the 2007 Festival of New Musics at Dartmouth College.

Music means to me:Music is how I define myself. It is the outlet for my creativity, and it has been the most important part of my life.

Schools:MA in Electro-Acoustic Music-Dartmouth College (2006-2008)
BA in voice performance at UPS (1999 - 2003)

General Interests:physics of music, anime & manga, building my own instruments, performing, improvising with others, philosophy, etc.

Other Distractions:...the computer. It's how I get my work done but it's also my biggest distraction. We have a love/hate relationship.
