Music means to me:
Music has been a motivating factor in my life since I can remember. The emotion brought out of me from listening to records like U2-War and Joshua Tree around age 11 still hold strong in my memory. Led Zepellin, Rush, and the Beasty Boys followed in 6th grade with "alternative" bands like Jane's Addiction, REM, the Cult, and The Cure following a few years later along with Tom Petty. By age 16 the records of my brother caught my attention which included a lot of Neil Young,Yes, AC/DC, Rush, and an many other classic rock albums. The Grateful Dead took me and my friends by storm by age 17 when I hitched hiked to my first Dead Shows in Vegas (93) and Eugene (94). My senior year of High School included public radio late night Jazz and my Dad's Jazz records especially Don Ellis and also the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Later I found the Almond Brothers greatest hits through one of those 10 cds for a buck mail in things. But it really started to come together when I got into the Mother Hips in '99 and figured out there were cool music scenes out of the mainstream's eye through magazines like Relix, Magnet, Harp, No Depression and others. I've also been moved to photograph musicians since my first photo class in High School around '92. Since then I've obtained a degree in photography and have continued to photograph musicians out of a love for the live performance and impromptu moments when a group photo session happens.
