francais15's Profile

About me:I am a CRAZY kind of adventurous person who loves a challenge. I have been teaching Spanish and French at a Catholic high school in Rochester, NY for 11 years now and I LOVE it! I have also been the head coach for girls' cross country for 9 years. I love to learn new languages and cultures, which would explain my constant desire to travel! I lived in Brittany, France for 2 years, Madrid, Spain for 1 month, San Jose, Costa Rica (in a family) for 1 month, and Chiapas, Mexico (in a family) for 2 weeks. I am fluent in both French and Spanish, but French was my first love.

Music means to me:EVERYTHING. I grew up listening to my 2 uncles play guitar and my grandfather on harmonica. My uncle had his own southern rock band and just recently revived his music with a new band called Wize Azz. I took classical piano for 11 years through elementary, middle, high school and my first 2 years at Geneseo. My brother, John, has been playing guitar since he was 13 and was lead guitar in a band from Rochester called South Central for as long as I can remember. My mother, sister and I used to be their biggest fans, following them to different cities, even - we had some WILD adventures! Now John lives in San Francisco and plays lead guitar for a band called "American Economy," which is an unfortunate name, considering the economy right now! :P I miss him very much and hope to keep in touch with him through JamBase. My boyfriend, Troy, also plays acoustic and electric guitar, some piano, and hand percussion.

General Interests:RUNNING marathons and doing triathlons! I am training for my 7th marathon in New Orleans on February 1. I qualified for and ran Boston in 2006 in 3 hrs. 57 minutes, which meant I achieved the title of "elite runner"! This past summer I completed my second sprint triathlon (1/2 mile swim/14 mile bike/3.1 mile run) in Sodus Point and I plan a third this summer in Canandaigua. I would like to qualify for the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii before I'm 50. I would have to swim 2.2 miles, bike 100 miles, and run a FULL marathon, 26.2 miles at the end! I've got a LOT of training to do!! Swimming in open water is my biggest challenge, and I plan to CONQUER it one day!
Other Distractions:I also do community theatre. I played the role of Miss Bell, the dance teacher, in "Fame," and had to SING a duet and act for the first time back in 2000 at the school where I teach. Since then, I have performed various roles in 4 different plays for Penfield Players and Black Sheep Theatre here in Rochester. This past summer I played a maid with a French accent in "The Philadelphia Story," and it was a BLAST! I also spend time playing with my two kitties, Minou and Minette, whom I love VERY much.
