The JamBase Journal
Come Share in Live Music!
10/16/2009 3:16PM
2009 has been a truly stunning year for new, exciting, quality music. Changes in the ways music is distributed and consumed have sparked a creative explosion where the real challenge is getting to it all. Autumn looks to continue this trend, with
Phish's
Festival 8, Umphrey's McGee's interactive
(S2) experiment
, a bold new album from
The Flaming Lips
, and much more. And while you keep tabs on well-loved acts, we encourage you to explore the emerging edge of tomorrow's talent we're spotlighting on JamBase, including the delicious reggae of
SOJA
, the bred-in-the-bone rock of the
Sam Roberts Band
, the emotionally resonant sounds of
Bon Iver & Megafaun
. There is SO much to be excited about in music today and we delight in sharing our discoveries with you (and hearing about what's rocking yo' world, too!).
Serving Up Scoops of Goodness!

The friction between innovation and tradition, the established and the emerging, makes for exciting music and JamBase is always keen to catch all the sparks we can. We keep our ears tuned into the newest, coolest sounds coming down the pike, but we also try to honor the foundations of modern music. So, while we're delighted to hip you to the
Dirty Projectors
, we also pull up a chair with folk icons like
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
and instrumental jazz-rock pioneers
Tortoise
. We're out there covering every mile of
Phish's
triumphant return, but we also honor the quartet's ancestors like
AC/DC
and
Rush
. JamBase is fiercely dedicated to unearthing and chronicling the best music ever, regardless of time period or genre. Grounded in the live experience, we scoop up all the good stuff we can find and we're awful glad you're around to share it with us.
The Sun is Shining!
8/14/2009 11:44AM
"The sun is shining, the weather is sweet/ Make you wanna move your dancin feet."
Bob Marleys pronouncement encapsulates the dog days of summer, where music fests abound. Just recently weve chronicled the inaugural
Wanderlust Festival
and
Lollapalooza
, as well as
Phish's
celebrated runs at The Gorge and Red Rocks (keep track of our uber-coverage at
jambase.com/phish
), all of these events highlighted by the epic surroundings and wide open skies.
When we move past walls and roofs, eyes turned skyward for perhaps the first time in ages, we may find ourselves opened up to newness and ready to re-embrace old loves; lungs swelling, toes sinking in the grass, touching earth and able to sing anew. Enjoy what remains of the season, and well be out there capturing as much of it as we can!
I Fest Therefore I Am

Bonnaroo and Rothbury are behind us (and documented in bright colors and spirited prose on
JamBase!
) but there's still a lot of sunshine, long days and great music set to unfold this summer.
While marquee festivals present jaw-dropping assemblages smaller fests can't begin to approach, more intimate gatherings often bring with them a sincere passion and winning vibe that the big events can't reproduce. One of our driving inspirations at JamBase is presenting music lovers with the tools and info they need, and at the top of our homepage is a small button labeled
"Festivals"
. Give it a click and you'll discover hundreds of cool options, many of them situated in some of the most beautiful, unique settings America has to offer. And there's nothing like a road trip into the fabulous unknown, eh?
Right around the corner there's the
Finger Lakes GrassRoots Fest
in central New York (7/16-7/19) or that same weekend the
Summer Music Festival at Roseberry
in Idaho or
Targhee Fest
in Wyoming. In August you might hit
Summer Meltdown
(8/13 – 8/16) near Seattle or the electronica rich
Nelson Ledges Summerdance
(8/28 – 8/30) in Ohio. Point is, much as we love you spending your computer time with us, there's a world of sounds and experiences out there and we're happy to keep you up to speed.
