About me:
Comet Records was founded in 1998 by Manu Boubli and Eric Trosset, through the collaboration with Tony Allen, nigerian Afrobeat master drummer.
“Black Voices”, released in 1999 gave Comet a large recognition as a far sighted label. Epicentre of the Afrobeat revival, Comet went further with Psyco On Da Bus, The Allenko Brotherhood Ensemble and finally ‘Homecooking’, Tony’s second album for Comet, that features long time admirer pop star Damon Albarn and Big Dada’s hip-hop artist Ty.
Far from focussing only on Afrobeat, Comet has also developped its individual strength as an independent at the forefront of jazz, electronica and dancefloor music.
Currently, Comet has signed on artists like Smadj, Bumcello, Art Konik, Rare Moods and the album Peace In Da Neighborhood,
With a catalogue that’s reach more than 40 releases, among them acclaimed afro rhythms compilations (Racubah!, Ouelele and Bilongo) Randy Weston’s re-issue albums and the last one of this Afro rhythms collection released in 2005, Henry Guedon the great french west indian drum master.
Moving away from their usual Afrobeat and Nu Jazz bias , Comet released Entre Seine et Sine A Tribute to L.S. Senghor by senegalese singer Meissa ;
In october 2006 Comet is releasing debut album Director’s Cut by new artist JI MOB, ranging from Spiritual Jazz, Soul and Deep House.
In 2007, Comet will be back into Afrobeat Scene with the Ruth Tafebe and The Afrorockerz’s album featuring Tony Allen ( album Holy Warriors)
Comet continues his journey into Negro African Poetry by releasing in 2008 Meissa’s second album Back To Africa, recorded in Dakar featuring new afro american poets.
Keep on working on Africa’s memories , Meissa and his new album Back To Africa is based on the Negro African poets from the diaspora like Langston Hughes, Phillys Weatley, Claude Mc Kay or Marcus Garvey with the collaobrations of Mike Ladd, Allonymous....In 2008, Comet will release the second Ji Mob Album, new singles of Comoe project ( new afrobeat dance floor opus), and new tracks of The Afrorockerz.
