TaraFoster83's Profile

About me:Tara Foster was born April 17, 1983 in Richmond, Virginia. She has been singing since the tender age 5, when her older sister, Tiffany, noticed her ability. She learned to sing by singing along to Cyndi Lauper, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and of course Wilson Phillips. Upon realizing her talent her mother, Valerie Adkins, stayed very supportive but allowed Tara to pave her own way. The only requirement she was given was to sing at any and all family gatherings. “I can remember singing along to my favorite singers with music turned all the way up. My mom knew I was home because she could hear me in the park across the street on her way home from work! She always made me feel like I was the best singer in the world.” Tara has performed in numerous musicals during her school years. However, her most accomplished moment came when she became the vocalist for The Governor’s School Jazz Messengers under the direction of James “Saxmo” Gates. This is when she began to discover herself as a musician and not just a singer. “I began to explore all kinds of music and realized I wasn’t being true to myself or my history. That’s when I fell in love with Jazz, Blues, Soul and Funk.” Through this new discovery Tara began writing and recording music with as many people as possible. Tara Foster has also studied the art of Studio Engineering at Montana Studios under the watchful eye of Grant Rutledge. Through her studies at Montana Studios, Tara was introduced to the production team at Da Spot Recording Studios. Upon being introduced Tara was given the opportunity to become a “Session Vocalist.” Two of the songs recorded were purchased by major Recording Artists. Tara has performed at The Carpenter Center, Berkley College of Music, The Arthur Ashe Center, The Richmond Landmark Theater, and various other venues. She also has had the honor to sing the National Anthem for the Governor of Virginia at the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School ground breaking ceremony and the Richmond Braves. Tara joined Pure Band and Show in April of 2007, a feels that this is the beginning of the next chapter in her musical history.
