About me:I run Dying Breed Entertainment which is a small management, promotions and publicity company for indie artists. I also run Dying Breed Studios (another part of Dying Breed Entertainment)which is a place where indie artists can record their way. My philosophy varies from many other engineers in that I beleive it's their music and my job is to create exactly what they want without pushing my own motives. That means if the artists wants it to be muddy, it will be muddy...reguardless of how offensive it may be to my ears.:) I simply offer suggestions on the technical matters and leave all creative aspects to the artists.
On the management and promotions aspect of my company, I believe in the "indie mentality" that above all else, the artists need to be respected and protected from those who may want to exploit or sell them out. I use viral marketing to get the music out there without the artist having to spend a lot of money they don't have. I handle booking in a similar manner. I contact bands and venues that I feel will allow the bands to be themselves and share the stage with bands that have both a similar genre and a similar mentality. Luckily, the indie community is very kind to traveling bands and usually wants to help.
To sum it all up, I believe that above all else, the artists should be able to do their thing without feeling like cattle!
