Come Share in Live Music!
2009 has been a truly stunning year for new, exciting, quality music. Changes in the ways music is distributed and consumed have sparked a creative explosion where the real challenge is getting to it all. Autumn looks to continue this trend, with Phish's Festival 8, Umphrey's McGee's interactive (S2) experiment, a bold new album from The Flaming Lips, and much more. And while you keep tabs on well-loved acts, we encourage you to explore the emerging edge of tomorrow's talent we're spotlighting on JamBase, including the delicious reggae of SOJA, the bred-in-the-bone rock of the Sam Roberts Band, the emotionally resonant sounds of Bon Iver & Megafaun. There is SO much to be excited about in music today and we delight in sharing our discoveries with you (and hearing about what's rocking yo' world, too!). 0 Comments :: Permalink :: Fri 10/16/2009 3:16 PM
Serving Up Scoops of Goodness!
The friction between innovation and tradition, the established and the emerging, makes for exciting music and JamBase is always keen to catch all the sparks we can. We keep our ears tuned into the newest, coolest sounds coming down the pike, but we also try to honor the foundations of modern music. So, while we're delighted to hip you to the Dirty Projectors, we also pull up a chair with folk icons like Ramblin' Jack Elliott and instrumental jazz-rock pioneers Tortoise. We're out there covering every mile of Phish's triumphant return, but we also honor the quartet's ancestors like AC/DC and Rush. JamBase is fiercely dedicated to unearthing and chronicling the best music ever, regardless of time period or genre. Grounded in the live experience, we scoop up all the good stuff we can find and we're awful glad you're around to share it with us. 0 Comments :: Permalink :: Fri 9/18/2009 5:49 PM
The Sun is Shining!
"The sun is shining, the weather is sweet/ Make you wanna move your dancin feet." Bob Marleys pronouncement encapsulates the dog days of summer, where music fests abound. Just recently weve chronicled the inaugural Wanderlust Festival and Lollapalooza, as well as Phish's celebrated runs at The Gorge and Red Rocks (keep track of our uber-coverage at jambase.com/phish), all of these events highlighted by the epic surroundings and wide open skies.

When we move past walls and roofs, eyes turned skyward for perhaps the first time in ages, we may find ourselves opened up to newness and ready to re-embrace old loves; lungs swelling, toes sinking in the grass, touching earth and able to sing anew. Enjoy what remains of the season, and well be out there capturing as much of it as we can! 0 Comments :: Permalink :: Fri 8/14/2009 11:44 AM
I Fest Therefore I Am
Bonnaroo and Rothbury are behind us (and documented in bright colors and spirited prose on JamBase!) but there's still a lot of sunshine, long days and great music set to unfold this summer.

While marquee festivals present jaw-dropping assemblages smaller fests can't begin to approach, more intimate gatherings often bring with them a sincere passion and winning vibe that the big events can't reproduce. One of our driving inspirations at JamBase is presenting music lovers with the tools and info they need, and at the top of our homepage is a small button labeled "Festivals". Give it a click and you'll discover hundreds of cool options, many of them situated in some of the most beautiful, unique settings America has to offer. And there's nothing like a road trip into the fabulous unknown, eh?

Right around the corner there's the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Fest in central New York (7/16-7/19) or that same weekend the Summer Music Festival at Roseberry in Idaho or Targhee Fest in Wyoming. In August you might hit Summer Meltdown (8/13 – 8/16) near Seattle or the electronica rich Nelson Ledges Summerdance (8/28 – 8/30) in Ohio. Point is, much as we love you spending your computer time with us, there's a world of sounds and experiences out there and we're happy to keep you up to speed.

"Go See Live Music!"
There's no denying the buzz in live music circles as Phish returns to summer stages (be sure to keep an eye on our Phish Tour Page for live setlists, pics, reviews and more, as well as our new Bonnaroo Page to connect with the fest action). Besides their own sweet reemergence, Phish have folks watching setlists and jabbering about live music in general. There is a concert loving community that goes beyond any one group, any one scene, any one festival, and Phish are themselves the children of this subculture, which readily weathers the muck of rainy fields and slick amphitheatres to revel in the unfolding moment.

JamBase's slogan - "Go See Live Music!" - is a succinct bit of philosophical incitement. We believe live music, in all its myriad permutations, can affect people's lives in a very positive way. There's an openness to chance and a focus on the "now" at shows that doesn't happen in our living room. As one of the pillars of our scene stands tall again, it's also primetime to appreciate live music in broader ways. Time to discover a new band or two. Time to put away our phones and listen to what the players are playing while sharing fellowship with likeminded strangers.

We'll keep sharing as much of the good stuff as we can find. Now you go out and get your hand stamped and maybe buy the drummer a beer, alright?

Never Miss A Show!
We know that in these busy times it's hard to keep track of all your favorite acts and all the shows you want to see. This is why we created JamBase. Track your favorite artists to get an email alert whenever a show is added in your town. Save shows to your My JamBase Calendar and get a reminder a few days beforehand. Download our critically acclaimed iPhone App so you can be sure to never miss another show when you're on the go. See? Problem solved!

We also know that you can't be everywhere, so for all the shows you just couldn't make, we've got your back with a constant stream of live music coverage. We have setlists and photos from every stop on the recent Dead tour, a rundown on what went happened in New Orleans for JazzFest and a great review of Pete Seeger's 90th Birthday Celebration at MSG in New York. On top of all that we've recently caught up with Widespread Panic, Dr. Dog, Band Of Horses, John McLaughlin and Chick Corea, and Railroad Earth.

Whatever your live music needs may be, JamBase has got you covered.

April Showers Us With Concerts!
The end of April means many things. First it means we’re trading our jackets for t-shirts, but even more than that, it means Spring Tours are underway and festival season is ramping up.

We’re currently enjoying the first Dead Tour in five years, and we’ve got more coverage than anyone, including next-day pics of every stop on the tour by legendary photographer Jay Blakesberg.

This time of year also means New Orleans’ Jazz Fest and California’s Coachella, and we’ll have reviews and pics pouring in soon.

April is also when we celebrate Earth Day. From April 17-19 the Green Apple Festival will be hosting events all over the country culminating with lots of music, which is FREE if you volunteer. More info on how to volunteer and details on concerts at greenapplefestival.com. Yup, spring is about re-birth. From The Dead rising again to the leaves on the trees to bare feet at festivals to all the green we love so much, it’s time to stop and smell the flowers. And don’t forget to do your part to keep it green, because really, everyday is Earth Day. 0 Comments :: Permalink :: Wed 4/15/2009 10:55 AM

Happy Birthday to Us!
A decade can be a lifetime. It is for JamBase, as it was 10 years ago this week that our founders had the foresight and motivation to register this very website name which we reside at today. Thank you for sharing this decade with us, and we look forward to being with you for many more to come.

Five years is also a long time. So long that you might start to forget certain things. What Phish did just a few days ago in Hampton was special. They reminded us of their greatness and maybe even helped us see our own. From song selection to set length to transcendent moments, Phish kept us on our toes and they brought us back together. While our roots may have risen from phertile ground, it’s not all Phish around these parts, we’re also passionate about digging up new sounds, and that’s why we go to the annual SXSW (South by Southwest) conference in Austin, TX. We’ll be down there listening for that next special rock band, and if you happen to be in Austin, we’re throwing a party on Saturday March 21 with our friends from Press Here, Domino Publishing and Entertainment Weekly. We’ve got Dirty Projectors headlining and it all goes down at the French Legation Museum, come on by and say hello. 0 Comments :: Permalink :: Fri 3/20/2009 10:53 AM
When it hits you feel no pain
Money is tight and jobs are scarce, but there is one thing you don’t have to worry about: Music. Just as we may need it most, there’s an endless supply of amazing music out there, so much in fact we will only ever hear a fraction. Every door you open leads to ten more, all you have to do is let it in. We are constantly reminded of this by the plethora of CDs, MySpace pages and download links we receive, it comes at such a rate that it’s impossible to keep up; another reminder of just how much is out there. But for live music junkies like us, this fact doesn’t come without its own set of problems. How do I afford Phish and Dead tickets this summer? How do I even get Phish tickets? How do I keep up with all the new bands? First thing you want to do is make sure you’re tracking the artists you know you want to see with MyJamBase. Next you want to utilize our JamBase iPhone App (which was recently featured in Rolling Stone’s “Best Music Apps”). But what you really want to do is use these tools to get out and see some music. Not only will you feel better, you’ll be helping the economy! 0 Comments :: Permalink :: Fri 2/13/2009 10:51 AM

Go See Live Music Together!
As we all know, live music is best experienced when shared with friends & loved ones.

JamBase has always been about getting you to the show, be it by searching your city, tracking your favorite bands and receiving new show alerts, or connecting with friends for recommendations.

Today we're excited to announce a new feature that will hopefully make your musical life a lot easier to coordinate with friends.

When you're logged in to My JamBase and searching for music, you'll see a small orange friend icon next to any event that one of your friends has in their calendar. Simply click the friend icon and an informative bubble will pop-up, revealing which of your friends have saved the show to their calendar.

You can then save the show to your calendar to let other friends know and Go See Live Music together!

Give it a whirl and let us know what you think!

Yours in live music,
JamBase

The Greening of Festivals
Straight from GreenBase, our blog that focuses on the intersection of music and climate change, is this great piece on the greening of festivals.

The article, from the student newspaper of Emory University, touches on key aspects including the impact of fan travel, the difficulty of making any event truly green in a non-green society, and the importance of not being too earnest.

Widgets, Alerts and Search…Oh My!
What's up, JamBasers?  We're all a little goofy over here because tonight we pushed a new site release that includes all sorts of goodies.

Are you sitting down?

First, we would like to introduce a great JamBase Widget that you can add to your blogs, MySpace, Facebook, Friendster, Orkut, Bebo…well, you get the idea.  This is a Web 2.0 widget that shows people visiting your blog or social networking sites when your favorite bands are coming to town.  They can choose what city they want to see, depending on where they are located or where they are going.  The hope is that your friends will discover new shows via your widget.  It's really easy to create and share, too.  All you need to do is go to your account page and click on "My Widgets!" to get cracking.   Enjoy!

The next thing we're fist-pumping about is New Local Show Alerts for your Favorite Artists.  From now on, when one of your favorite artists adds a new date in your local area, we will send an e-mail to you to let you know!  No more scouring the web and the local papers.  JamBase will deliver the dates right to you.

How do we know your favorite artists?   Well…it's pretty simple.  Go to your MyJamBase account and add them!  Or we can also scan your iTunes library and automatically add them for you based on what you're listening to.

Please note that you will automatically be subscribed to these alerts if you are a current newsletter subscriber.  If you want to opt-in or you want to check on your subscriptions, visit your Account Info page.  Just one click of a check-box and you can be the first to know about a show coming to town!

Last, but definitely not least, we have made many amazing improvements to our search functionality.  Poke around…you'll see what we're talking about.

In addition to these major features, we've also made some smaller improvements and fixed some pesky bugs.  You'll see some new options in your Journal editor, receive an automated notification if someone comments on your Journal post and now can send a private message to anyone on the site.

We really are so excited to offer all of these new features to you and we hope you'll enjoy using them.  Please feel free to post here (or private message us) to let us know your thoughts!

Peace!
JamBase
