    Erin Mckeown: Hundreds of Lions

Some might say that Virginia born singer/songwriter Erin McKeown was born into the wrong generation. Her uplifting alto voice transcends the boundaries of genre, singing everything from old jazzy cabaret tunes to rock, pop, swing, and folk. Her unclassified musical style flawlessly pays homage to the past, citing a wide array of influences, from the legendary Judy Garland to the book A Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, making her truly stand out amongst her contemporaries as a freshly innovative sound.

On her newest studio release, Hundreds Of Lions, McKeown is pleased to share her first album of original material since the release of We Will Become Like Birds in 2005. Since then, she has been busy on the road in support of her latest, critically acclaimed album, Sing You Sinners. Produced by Sam Kassirer and mixed by Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine, Fruit Bats), Hundreds Of Lions will be independently released on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records.

Opening the record is “To A Hammer”, a playful yet emotionally driven orchestral gem. Other standouts include “The Foxes,” an undeniably bright, feel-good song that contrasts greatly to the moodier “(Put The Fun Back In) The Funeral,” which leads us through a dark underground world with smothering murmurs and the hiss of subway grates.

This intelligently written, catchy album is a perfect blend of up-tempo and slow acoustically layered tracks, resulting in harmonious, gorgeous songs that truly display McKeown’s versatility as an artist. She has performed throughout the world with artists such as Ani DiFranco, Josh Ritter, The Indigo Girls and Andrew Bird and will hit the road again this Fall, playing many dates alongside Jill Sobule.

"Irresistibly entertaining. McKeown bounds and bounces in a genuine vein, thanks to her spirited song-stylist sensibility…”
    - Dan Ouellette, Billboard
