Hard to believe that its been 10 years since the retro funk unit known as Stymie & the Pimp Jones Luv Orchestra first graced a Bay Area stage. The 14-piece band’s instrumentation and presentation recalls classic funk groups like Funkadelic and Sly and the Family Stone while maintaining an energy all their own that throws audiences into a frenzy. But unlike most groups who aim for the classic 70’s sound, S&PJLO play no covers; instead incorporating elements of rock, jazz, hip-hop, pop, reggae, Latin, and gospel, into soulful, socially conscious originals.... more
