Honeyboy & Boots - Mississippi Duo
Honeyboy & Boots - Mississippi Duo Drew Blackwell is from the Mississippi town of Macon. His mother is a gifted pianist and he and his sisters all have a ear for music and can sing!! He began learning his way around the guitar at the young age of 14, influenced by his Uncle Doug, and mentored and inspired to write and feel the blues by the great Willie King. King was a blues man born in Praire Point, MS. Drew along with his good friend and fellow artist Caleb Childs began The Old Memphis Kings in 2004. They have since continued to share the soul behind the blues king that brought them together.

Courtney grew up in Wa state and comes from a musically gifted family, at the age of 4 she was taught and began taking lessons in classical cello by Dr Wharton, a cello/bass professor at the University of Idaho. She would say her mother was most influential in her progressing in technic, tone and ear training. Practicing with her every day.

In the past 3 years, since moving to the south. she has really focused on changing the way the cello is used in ensembles , now she prefers folk, blues, and bluegrass styles and has really refined her playing to allow herself to sing while performing.

They met at the Dave's Darkhorse Tavern in Starkville, MS. Drew's blues band played there quite often and Courtney played cello with a few different groups that played at the establishment. They began dating and soon began playing together billing themselves as Honeyboy and Boots. Honeyboy is a nickname Drew received while singing the blues with the Old Memphis Kings and Boots is a nickname Courtney has had since she was young because she is always wearing them. Now married, they still make there home in Starkville.

Together they have a unique style that is all their own. This husband/wife, guitar/cello duo plays a blend of old blues and folk covers, country ballads, and originals that are straight from the heart. Americana, folk, alt country, blues, all these words describe their sound, which is always changing and growing.

They have been hired for weddings and receptions, play regularly in Starkville, Columbus, Jackson, and Birmingham, and recently in the past few months have played at the first annual Porchfest in Franklin Tn, Cumberland Country Music Festival in Cookville Tn, the Blue Plate Special in Knoxville Tn, and a New Year's Eve bash in Nashville! They are excited for many more opportunities this year. They enjoy the travel and adventure of a touring married duo!

Thank you for joining in this adventure with us!
Cheers!
