Kai Eckhardt made his debut as a band leader in the fall of 2011 to a packed house at San Francisco's premier jazz venue Yoshi's, presenting his new band 'Zeitgeist'.
The Afro-German bassist-composer is internationally recognized for his pioneering work in the John McLaughlin Trio and the super-jamband Garaj Mahal.
Zeitgeist is an international band of talented, inspired musicians coming together from across the globe to deliver an exciting mix of original sounds infused with modern grooves, exquisite harmonies and a unifying message. The word "Zeitgeist" comes from German and means: "Spirit of the times".

Scheherazade Stone: vocals
Scheherazade Stone's vast experience ranges from Theater performance to international
collaborations with major artists in Jazz and World Music. Some of those performers have been
groundbreaking in stretching the boundaries of style and improvisation. Among those are Peter
Apfelbaum's Hieroglyphic ensemble, Don Cherry, Calvin Keys, Cheb I Sabbah and Jai Uttal.
Scheherazade Stone is also a seasoned recording artist with a long list of accomplishments
ranging from a Grammy nomination to the nomination for best Bay Area Vocalist. Her cutting
edge music videos have been featured on NBC, VH-1 and MTV. The upcoming Yoshi's debut
will also feature some of her original compositions.
Osam Ezzeldin : keyboards
Osam Ezzeldin is beyond reasonable doubt one of the brightest shining lights on the keyboard
horizon today. The North-African born prodigy was awarded the United States citizenship after
receiving a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music following his first appearance in the
United States. After honing his skills in Dallas Texas, Boston, Cairo and Istanbul, Osam
Ezzeldin is for the first time showcasing his talent in San Francisco after working with India's
incomparable Zakir Hussain, the Istanbul based percussion maestro Misirli Ahment and Steely
Dan's bass legend Chuck Rainey. Osam's versatility in World Music make him an especially
valuable addition to a new generation of jazz virtuosos.
Deszon X Claiborne: drums
Deszon Claiborne is a wonderful musician as well as a human being of great depth who lights
up the stage with his dedication, proficiency and sense of humor alike. He managed to
flawlessly integrate the styles of straight ahead jazz, funk, hip-hop and world music since
completing his studies with master drummers Billy Cobam, James Levi, Barry Jekowsky, Kenneth
Nash and Ralph Humphrey. His vast experience of the live stage and the recording studio
include engagements with: Peter Apfelbaum, Angela Bofil, Les McCann, Dr. Lonnie Smith Omar
Sosa, Robben Ford, Boz Scaggs, Greg Howe, Ernie Watts and Tom Scott.
Christopher Robinson: guitar
Chris Robinson is the youngest member of the newly formed Kai Eckhardt band who originates
from Sydney Australia. Being a new immigrant to the United States he has quickly mastered an
impressive variety of styles while retaining a distinct voice on his instrument. A high degree of
sensitivity paired with flawless technical prowess make Chris Robinson a most valuable player
who should be closely watched for his contributions in the years to come. Since his arrival in the
US he has shared the stage with Indian percussion master Trilok Gurtu, Eddie Jobson from the
band U.K., jazz bassist David Friesen and Turkish pop superstar Sertab Erener.
Savannah Jo Lack: violin
Native to Australia, the wonderful artist Savannah Jo Lack studied and absorbed
the classical music genre thoroughly before arriving in the United States. She
has blossomed into a consummate musician, featured orchestral soloist and
string arranger. With a deep appreciation for song writing and improvisation
Savannah Jo Lack is beginning to stretch the envelop, embarking on a daring
path of sonic exploration. Her solid intonation and exquisite timbre add a
refreshing touch to this new music coming together in the life and times of an
evolving art form.
