Isis began life with the release of two EPs that hinted at the awesome potential lurking within, "Mosquito Control" and "The Red Sea", before issuing the first records that truly captured the quintessential, inimitable Isis sound: 2001's "Celestial" and its companion EP, "Sgnl>05". On these records Isis’ taut, implosive post- metal adventurings marked the arrival of a band with a genuinely progressive vision, and they honed their sound to devastating perfection on 2002’s stunning "Oceanic" in 2002, the band's first release on Ipecac and one which earned Album of the Year accolades in "Terrorizer" and "Rocksound".
The band’s third full-length, Panopticon, was Isis’ most overtly political record to date, exposing the sinister, unblinking eye of counter-insurgency with mesmerizing stereophonic clarity. On this record Isis’ attempts to draw parallels between the sonic innovation of their music and the heightened state of existence towards which advanced capitalist societies are perpetually striving is realised in a more accomplished form than previously achieved; a commentary on the Orwellian nature of the modern state, "Panopticon" is also a disturbingly thrilling journey into the darkest personal consequences of contemporary life.
Throughout their career, Isis have become known as much for their awe- inspiring live performances as their recorded material; landmark shows at 2004’s All Tomorrow’s Parties festival at Camber Sands and the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, among countless others, have attested to Isis' reputation as avant-metal visionaries. Ipecac are therefore thrilled to announce the September 2006 release of "Clearing The Eye", a live DVD epic filmed in Los Angeles, New York, Tokyo and Sydney that captures this cutting-edge band at its exhilarating best. The DVD release precedes that of the band’s next full-length, "In The Absence Of Truth", in Autumn 2006; this album promises to take Isis’ vertiginous guitar epics to new places, and together with the DVD, will surely serve to consolidate their remarkable accomplishments in the post-metal world over the past few years and cement their reputation as foremost innovators in heavy music.
