Global Funk Global Funk integrates the driving, improvisational rock of Phish, the organic, incendiary grooves of Medeski, Martin and Wood, the sophisticated, classic jazz/funk of Herbie Hancock and Weather Report, with the intricate, offbeat compositional approaches of the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Frank Zappa in creating a fresh, modern sound of their own. In just three years the quartet has performed over 600 shows from coast to coast, and has opened for such well known acts as Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Ozomatli, Spearhead, Oteil Burbridge and the Peacemakers, Garaj Mahal, The Isley Brothers, Liquid Soul, Maceo Parker, Robert Walters and others. Global Funk has also played some the nation's finest music festivals including the Monterey Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, BerkFest, Baja Bash, Tennesee’s Riverbend Festival and Georgia's Harvest Festival to name just a few. The group continues to build its following in California and across the country with a strong commitment to musical integrity without sacrificing its primary goal: to make people dance.
