From the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia comes one of the hottest new bands in the bluegrass genre, Nothin’ Fancy. Nothin' Fancy was formed as a bluegrass band in September of 1994 with the sole purpose of competing in the East Coast Bluegrass Championship in Crimora, Virginia. After winning their auspicious debut, they have grown in popularity, released 5 full length albums and one CD single, played the Ryman Theatre in Nashville, the Lincoln Center in New York City, and have their own festival in Buena Vista, VA which is now in its third year.
Their relentless touring schedule of over 140 dates has earned them one of the most loyal fan bases in all of bluegrass music. In the past few years, fans have begun to travel alongside their favorite group on tour buses to festivals throughout the East Coast.
In 2002 Nothin' Fancy signed with the Pinecastle recording company, and quickly released their debut recording for the label entitled Once Upon A Road. The record was produced by award-winner Don Rigsby, who captured their distinguished playing, spirituality, and friendly charisma. This album earned them a showcase at the International Bluegrass Music Association Conference in October of 2002 and a nomination for the IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year Award. Their newest outing, Reflections, has received innumerable accolades and proved that they are here to stay as one of the new powerhouses in the genre.
Their strong vocals, energetic instrumentation, and energetic stage presence helps project a friendly down-home manner on stage synonymous with their name. Nothin’ Fancy is not just carrying on the tradition of bluegrass music; they are contributing to the creation of a new tradition with-in the acoustic music genre.
