We're a Little Rock based hard blues rock band that prides ourselves on playing some of the hottest sets in Central Arkansas. We take heavy blues/rock riffs, throw in some country, mix in some funk and jam it for 3 or 4 hours straight. Be sure to catch our next show and thanks for supporting local live music.
So where did Interstate Buffalo come from?? Well....
First off, you have to understand that we DID NOT make this up:
Located in Northwestern Arkansas is the very small town with a population of +/- 3000. While visiting with a friend from this town we heard a story about women from Okalahoma that were crossing the Arkansas state line to "corrupt" lonely high school girls in the local city park. As it was, the city council voted to install multiple video cameras in an effort to curtail this shocking activity. True story.
Whether the cameras have cut down on the ladies having fun, well, we have no idea. The relevant point is this:
Our band used to be called South 61. We started back in early '07 as an acoustic blues cover band. A few weeks before our first official gig at the local Save the Biscuit Fundraiser, bassist Scooter Chandler and Jack Poff (vocals/guitar) had their house broken into. Among other things, they lost 2 guitars and a banjo. Unfortunately, Scooters road worn bass rig was left untouched. Around the same time as the break in, we met up with a drummer named Matt Olson. Who not only was a great drummer, but he had a sweet practice space, with good locks. So after a week or two of practice, we played our first gig as South 61 covering deep blues standards like "Spoonful", "New Minglewood", and "Stop Breaking Down". Going forward we booked some great shows, but we also had some not so great shows. Pretty typical stuff for a new band. Eventually we got into writing our own music, and really developing a sound that we wanted. The shows got better. The crowds got better. Slowly the "South 61" started fading away, but we couldn’t decide on the right name that really fit the band….
Then in late 2009, we heard that story.
It’s a sick line of thought, but here it is: Rather promiscous ladies from Oklahoma were traveling across state lines to see the young ladies in Arkansas. We called that Interstate Chicken. But because we couldn’t name the band Interstate Chicken (or Interstate Beaver), we went with Interstate Buffalo.
It ain’t pretty, but it’s the truth. Lucky for us we can play the hell out of some blues rock music that you would expect from a band called Interstate Buffalo.
All joking aside, this band works hard. We regularly play sets that can stretch more than 3 hours long. The papers have said that we deliver a "scorching live set", and the words "melt your face" are pretty common. Bottom line, we play music that we think is fun to listen to. Catch our next show, and let us know what you think.
