Tall Tall Trees
Tall Tall Trees New York City quartet Tall Tall Trees plays a unique brand of banjo driven folk rock. It has been described using the following words: raw, rustic, whimsical, muppets. Founded originally as an acoustic trio in 2006 by multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Mike Savino, guitarist Kyle Sanna, and percussionist Mathias Kunzli, the band has since electri-fried their sound and added bassist Benjamin Campbell to the performing line-up. Savino, an accomplished bassist as well, has adopted his long lost love, the 5-string banjo. Their self-titled debut, released in 2009 is garnering praise for it’s unusual blend of bluegrass, world music, and indie rock. The album has been called a "perfect storm of catchy songwriting, with spot-on performances, and crisp inventive production". With influences ranging from afrobeat and Brazilian forró to surf rock and psychedelia, Tall Tall Trees creates music that is "infectiously upbeat and addictive". They are quickly developing a reputation for their high energy shows and dynamic musicianship as they continue to tour the US. They are currently in the midst of an epic beard contest that began during a recent expedition to Alaska.
