Big High is the latest incarnation in a long line of great Northwest rock bands that trace their origins back to the foundational principles of classic rock. Built around great songwriting, and a heavy yet ascending quality to their music, Big High's debut album is a testament to the legacy of the great Seattle rock bands.
Formed by four musicians with deep roots in the Seattle music scene, and armed with the same do-it-yourself ethos that made the Northwest the indie capital of the world, Big High is about to release its self-titled debut album on June 15th under its own imprint record label, Big High Music.
Formed by singer Mesa, guitarist Ari Joshua, bassist Sandy, and drummer Barret Martin, the album showcases Big High's ability to write a great song and then deliver it with a thunderous bolt that hasn't been heard in American rock and roll since the glory days of the 1990s. The album starts off in the rolling seas of Cold Dark Garden, and then builds in momentum with three uptempo rockers, LSH, Atoms In Formation, and Right Brain. The album continues to climb showcasing Big High's impressive use of dynamics until collapsing midway into the calmer waters of Whispers and Symptoms Of The Sun. The second half of the album builds again with the street tough messages of Black and Blues and Chemicals, before descending into the darkly beautiful Angel Devil, Could She Be, and ending upon the climactic Possessions.
Long time Seattle-ite Peter Buck of REM also makes a guest appearance on four of the album tracks, shouldering guitar duties on the songs Whispers, Symptoms Of The Sun, Blacks And Blues, and Could She Be.
Already at work on their second album to follow on the heels of this debut, Big High is playing select shows around the Northwest and West Coast until they embark on their fall American tour, with their second album expected to land in the deep winter of 2010-11.
