Bigwheel Electrosoul is Denver-based project created by and under the direction of DJCheckone.
The sound is half electronic/half live and frequently uses some of Colorado's top musicians, singers and
MC's. Some of the regular musicians you might expect to see out on the gig are Jerod Sarlo,
Charlie Mertens, Dominic Lalli, Mark Donavan, Venus Cruz, Dent and Garrett Sayers. At times Bigwheel
has acted as a house band for national acts such as Bahamadia, Camp Lo, Eric Roberson, Phat Kat, etc.
Each artist is very seasoned nationally/internationally and has shared stages with most of their idols and
beyond.
The term "electrosoul" emphasizes soul with supporting electronic elements. It's almost as if their
computers have more soul than normal. Dameion put out a t-shirt saying, "Let's not quantize everything,"
because the quantization feature on most computers is what takes out the soul. They constantly make
productions that fill in the blanks of a 20-piece band. The beat colors the improvisation of classical and
jazz-trained artists. Throw in some rappers, vocalists and breakdancers, and you have the soul freak
show that is Bigwheel ES.
Bigwheel stems from improvisation and becomes what it is. A song typically starts off with guidelines that
come from the MPC or Ableton Live and, depending on the instrumentation, artists put their own unique
stamp on the moment.
The future of Bigwheel is going to be filled with celebrating the past, present and future of the art form and
the love of the beat.
