Circa 2004, Lorian Toth replied to a"guitarist sought" ad posted by Ryan Flanagan. The two, along with another guitarist, formed Caveman Technology. The band did not play out and was short lived. Even though they stopped playing in a band together, Ryan and Lorian kept in touch. Over the next three years, Lorian wrote a handful of songs and posted some on line under the name Pet Peeve. He then decided to introduce drums to his songs so he called Ryan and the pair started rehearsing in Ryan's attic. After a few songs were solidified they posted an ad on line to which Mark Adkinson replied. Mark attended Pet Peeve's first show in February of 2008, which was at a fundraiser for a film, and liked what he heard even though at the time the band was only a duo of guitar/vocals and drums. He decided to join the band and soon enough the trio acquired several shows throughout Chicago. During one weekend in July of 2008 Pet Peeve recorded a five song EP and started giving it away at their shows. But something was still missing – a bass player. On a long walk in the country, we stumbled across a disheveled man sleeping in a bed of straw covered in dew and burdocks. We brought him home cleaned him up and gave him a bass. Dan was the last to join the band and completed the line up in December of 2008. Pet Peeve played their first show with all four members in February 2009.
Pet Peeve's music combines elements of different genres and it is clear that the band does not have one creative direction. Their songs vary from eastern European dance songs, to somber instrumentals, to pop melodies and folk.
