Seers Poncho has been infusing the Chicago music scene with a rootsy and eclectic blend of pop-rock, reggae, jazz, world music, bluegrass and rhythm & blues since 1999. Despite this myriad of musical styles, Seers Poncho is solidly entrenched in the “jam band” mold, altering tempos, arrangements and moods with improvisational flair to create a musical tapestry recalling the glory days of roots and organic rock.
Instrumentation includes all forms of hand drums and percussion (including the occasional steel drum), saxophone and clarinet to compliment three-tiered guitar riffs and a rock solid and dramatic rhythm section. With such a large ensemble, it's no surprise that Seers Poncho's musical influences range from The Meters to Frank Zappa to Bob Marley to the Grateful Dead, as well as more modern artists such as Wilco and Los Lobos.
For approximately 10 years, this now late-30 something group has appeared at most of Chicago's core live music venues including Schuba's, Beat Kitchen, Wise Fools and Cubby Bear, as well as at numerous Chicago Street Fairs such as The Lincoln Park Arts Faire and the Taste of Lincoln Avenue. The band's versatile material and sound can be molded for 'plugged' and 'unplugged' settings.
