3JC
3JC Almost 10 years ago, two long time friends formed 3JC under two simple concepts...to create good rockin' tunes and to give St. Louis a much needed taste of original rock. The first CD, "Freshman" and the second CD, "Down" received radio play on 101.1 The River, 93.3 93X, 88.1 KDHX and 105.7 The Point. The third, as of yet untitled CD, promises to be yet another step in the progression that sets this band apart from other bands in the St. Louis music scene. What the band describes as "Poppymetalgrungepunkrock" is really the combination of five guys with different backgrounds bringing together experience and styles to form what is 3JC.

Chris Clifton, one half of the founding members of 3JC, has always loved music and remembers early on being able to "see" the music in ways others couldn't. The only family musical influence Chris had was his great aunt who traveled in a musical variety show, but it was enough for Chris to learn trombone in the 4th grade and continue all through high school. In his teens, Chris followed a Peoria based band named EFX. When rumors surfaced that the bass player for EFX was leaving, Chris bought a bass guitar and spent his days playing along to the radio in hopes of being the replacement. Those hopes were cut short when EFX broke up but that didn't stop Chris' drive to play. He eventually hooked up with Jim and together they formed 3JC.

Jim Darnell, the other founding member of 3JC, has always had music in his blood. Like most musicians, Jim played another instrument in his high school band. In Jims case, it was trumpet. This lasted into his early teens until he bought his first guitar. That trumpet hasn't been seen since. Jim was hooked on the guitar and all the possibilities it opened up for him. After meeting and developing a bond with Chris, who just happened to play bass, they began a series of projects. Along the way Jims playing advanced, his experiences took him in different directions and the advice learned from others helped him decide to be more than just another cover band. 3JC was born and the music starting flowing.

Joe Kaiser can thank his mother for his early musical influences. As a child, Joes mother would play the piano or organ to welcome in the new day. Growing up with that influence, it's expected that Joe played piano for a short time as a child, but it was his cousin who drew him to the guitar. After a few years of convincing his parents, Joe got his first guitar and immediately set out to emulate the heroes of the day. It may sound repetitive, but Joe tried many projects through the years and just couldn't find the right mesh of players until he met Chris and Jim. 3JC was coming into its own now.

Scott Palmer grew up in a house full of Opera. His father was a lyric tenor who taught him how to sing and as a boy he would spend many nights singing in front of a candle to learn how to use his diaphragm. This came in handy later when, as a member of the high school acappella choir, he was able to sing with the Boston Pops Orchestra. After high school Scott joined the US Navy and music took a back seat. While in the Navy, Scott picked up a bass guitar and began to play. Once out of military service he bounced from band to band as a bass player but wasn't really satisfied with that role. Scott realized he wanted to return to singing and began searching for a new band and a new situation. 3JC was the perfect fit from the very beginning.

Steve Boehm, although having no family musical background, always wanted to be a drummer. As a child he would circle the drum sets in the Christmas catalogs every year but it wasn't until the age of 12 that he got his first set of drums. A used, thrown together conglomeration his mom bought off a neighbor, who just happened to be in a band. After that, Steve never looked back. He would practice every day for hours to his favorite tapes, continually buy and sell drums to "upgrade" his sets and eventually make his way into some garage bands with his high school friends. It was during high school that Steve got his dream drum set for an early graduation gift. High school also exposed Steve to forms of music he hadn't really considered before. Jazz and Blues. With the guidance of his former band director, Steve took his drumming to new levels but never could find that same level in the bands that followed. Steve actually stopped playing music several times over the years to pursue other avenues, but he always returned to what he loved. That's what brought him to 3JC.
