Dark Candy is an -in your face- cerebral electronic rock duo from Asheville NC. The Drum and Key instrumentalists integrate compositional and improvisational live electronic dance rock with melody driven grooves and soundscapes. Hip hop, downbeat, dub, breakbeat and psychedelic post rock influenced styling are always in the mix of their diverse and well rounded sound. Executed with real time soul and compassion without useing loops, processors, triggers or laptops, DCD takes live electronic music to a whole new organic level.
The duo met in the Fall of 2007. Ryan (drums) contacted Jon (keys) via craigslist to join his band at the time "The Safety Meeting". As soon as Jon started coming to rehearsals the connection between the two was palatable and they were destined to go on there own, one way or the other. So when TSM disbanded in the spring of '08 the two took some material from those sessions, a slew of Jon's own personal material and Ryan's many years of beat making experience and created The Dark Candy Duo.
Dark Candy's live shows can range from a -get down to business- song structured set to an all out improvisational dance party. No show is the same and it all depends on the crowd and what they want. Even when they do get down to biz you'll still want to get down with them, its definitely contagious and their goal is to make you either move, think, escape or all of the above. But most of all DCD''s main goal is to make the listener leave their show in a good mood and have a fresh melody in their head.
