Life On Earth
Life On Earth The music of the Life on Earth blends Jazz and rock instrumentation and a progressive approach to Western music. The end result is a hypnotic, rhythmic and experimental style. With broad influences (Tortoise, Fela Kuti, Steve Reich, Critters Buggin’), the music is familiar, yet elusive of words to perfectly describe. . Formed in 1998 in Lawrence, Kansas, the Life on Earth features Ben Tuttle on the drums, keys, vibes, samples, sax and vocals. Tuttle takes performance into future realms; playing drums and keys simultaneously, all while triggering samples, looping and singing. Such feats have never been accomplished as uniquely as this, especially when creative players join Tuttle on stage. Current players include melodic genius Brian Schey ( Dan Bern ) on the bass and percussive magicians James Abbott and Isaac Hilpman. The Life on Earth has opened for Isotope 217, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Mice Parade, Deep Banana Blackout , and HABMX. Obviously the unique combination of styles allows for creative and versatile bills. As Ben Tuttle and the Life
