Hermosa Beach based singer/songwriter, Jay Constable, is the modern day Bob Dylan. Taking his inspirations from Dylan’s voice that shaped a generation, Constable’s style of song writing has been referred to as “a revival of the storyteller music of Bob Dylan and James Taylor. With a little Johnny Cash sprinkled on top.”
Constable developed his “chops” in the Midwest town of Bloomington, IN during college, where he recorded 3 CD’s. Once getting a “sounds great” from John Mellencamp. Constable then heard the call of the road and headed down to Nashville, TN to work on his craft. While there, he recorded at the legendary, Quad Studios. Once again, Jay heard the road calling. This time it was California on his mind and he arrived in Los Angeles in 2005.
In 2006, Jay headed back into the studio to record his 4th disc, One More Night. Jay was outgrowing his solo acoustic shows in Los Angeles and added Lincoln Street to the line-up, including Ron Calese on Bass and Brian Meegan behind the drums in 2007. The addition of a band filled out the sound and gave Jay’s traditional tunes a more rocked up sound. One More Night will be completed and released in June 2008.
Jay has played a venues around the Los Angeles area including The Mint, 14 Below, The Lighthouse Cafe, The Pitcher House and the Malibu Inn. Jay has shared the stage with Cubensis, Jeremy Buck & The Bang, Nate LaPointe Band, Jeff Jensen Band and Kofi Baker Band (son of Ginger Baker of Cream) to name a few.
Whether you are 16 or 61, the music of Jay Constable will get you singing along long after you’ve left the show. Jay and the band will be touring in support of their June release late summer/fall.
