World funk is one way to define the Alliens. You won’t walk away from an
Alliens show without hearing Afrobeat, cumbia and reggae being bounced
around inspired rock jamming, in the latin-reggae-funk-fusion style that we
call Allienation.
This band is all about connecting with their audience. Leave the arrogance
to the posers; the formulas to the pop stars; the repetition to the unoriginal.
Alliens promise you’ll never get the same show twice – sure, you’ll get the
consistent quality you’d expect of three guys raised to play, and the
musical sensibility to match. But you will NEVER know what to expect.
Alliens are bringing it back to the people with James Brown in mind.
Dancing is inevitable.
The Alliens are brothers Jamiel (keys) and Janiah Allen (percussion),
alongside cousin Zeph Allen (guitar). All born in Key West, Florida, their
fathers were central members of The Survivors, who helped define the true
Conch sound. So these boys have been steeped in groove from
conception.
Separated in their youth, each member explored music on their own time
and in their own way. Janiah was immersed in Latin percussion for most of
his youth while living in Ecuador. Jamiel studied rigorously with world-class
pianist Franko Richmond, cutting his teeth on mid-century jazz standards.
Meanwhile, Zeph taught himself guitar on a journey from grunge, rock,
funk, rap and blues through to jazz and classical music.
Alliens 101: "When we see the eyes of the audience aflame, our music
generating the light, and we watch it radiate through the crowd, we know
we are manifesting our destiny."
Prepare to be Allienated.
