Clint Patrick Black was born in Long Branch, N.J., on Feb. 4, 1962, but raised in Houston. He dropped out of high school to play music, supporting himself with day jobs as ironworker and fishing guide. After building a local reputation, he was brought to the attention of RCA Records, which signed him to a recording contract in 1987. Starting with his first single, "A Better Man," in 1989, Black scored four straight No. 1s. That same year, he won the Country Music Association's Horizon Award and the following year, its male vocalist of the year prize.... more
