The Bluegrass Region of Central and Eastern Kentucky is home to one of the richest and most storied musical traditions in The United States. For centuries past, music lovers the world over have enjoyed the authentic storytelling and creative originality inspired by Kentucky's fascinating character and lush natural beauty. From the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains to the banks of the Ohio River, Low and behold, the next chapter in the story of a region's musical heritage. The Downtown County Band... bringing that good ol' Kentucky roots rock and blues.
With Keith Clifton on banjo, Dave Hawkins on mandolin, Wes Petzinger on guitar, and John Atha on up-right bass, these young men accomplish the allusive task of creating a sound both new and unique while still managing to capture that raw energy that gives Kentucky roots music its worldly appeal. Being neither a stranger to Appalachian Gospel, Mountain, or Old Timey Music, The DCB also does well to reinvent the once popular jug-band musical tradition of the Ohio River Valley by mixing with it elements of Southern Rock and Blues spanning from the Mississippi Delta to the Carolina Piedmont.
The result is an eclectic mix of roots musical styles driven by the contagious energy of the County Band's live performance and a noticeable shared appreciation for acoustic roots music in general. To see The DCB live is to witness a celebration of Kentucky's musical heritage. The sound is familiar yet new and exciting... hard to describe yet in an instant will have you up out of your seat, tapping your toes, and enjoying the moment.
