Lucky Pineapple is a six-piece musical frenzy involving Matt Dodds, guitar; William Benton, guitar; JC Denison, drums; Brian Sweeney, keys; David Cundiff, bass; and Susan Crocker, trumpet. All members of the band have a hand at vocals, percussion, and songwriting. Coming from a variety of musical paths, Lucky Pineapple has converged and emerged to create music that goes beyond the average spectrum of sounds and style within a single project. Attracting audiences as diverse as their musical repertoire, Lucky Pineapple has made a name for themselves in the Louisville area for their visually and audibly exciting live performances.
Since their formation in 2004, Lucky Pineapple has been fortunate enough to take part in some exciting musical endeavors. The band performed for the Louisville installment of the Burn to Shine DVD series, (created by Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty and filmmaker Christoph Green) for which guitarist William Benton helped find the location as well as curate the project. (It is slated for a late 2006/early 2007 release and will feature such Louisville bands and musicians as Will Oldham, Shipping News, Lords, Dead Child, Liberation Prophecy, Parlour, Magik Markers, and others.) Lucky Pineapple has also shared the stage with such national acts as Faun Fables, The Billy Nayer Show, Barbez, Gore Gore Girls, Liberation Prophecy, and French Toast as well as participated in local and national music-related festivals such as Lebowski Fest and The Forecastle Festival.
Lucky Pineapple self-produced, recorded and released their debut album "The New Rainbow" in early 2006. It has gone on to be a local favorite with impressive sales and regular airplay on the local public radiostation. In August 2006 the band released a split 7-inch on Noise Pollution Records (www.louisvillenoise.com) with local cohorts VRKTM.
The band had the great opportunity to record a 5-song EP at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studio in Chicago in the fall of 2005. Lucky Pineapple continues to write, record, and perform in Louisville and out of town. They are currently seeking a label suited to their sounds and ambitions with whom they can work to release the Electrical Audio sessions as well as future material.
