Planted in the heart of Los Angeles, CA, the five seeds of
Lemon Sun are a rock and roll outfit known for their
infectious sound and captivating live shows. Quite
literally taking their moniker from a lucid dream, Lemon
Sun and their sound are as vibrant as the rays
overhead.
With a few years of hard work and trials under their belt,
Lemon Sun has just completed their first full-length
album. The band was tired of labels talking without
walking so they took out a loan and made a record on
their terms with help from talented producer Dave
Schiffman (Dead Meadow, long time engineer for Rick
Rubin).
Lemon Sun is set for a quick but rambunctious set of
dates from May 6

, including stops in Las Vegas,
San Francisco, Orange County, San Diego, as well as a
hometown gig in LA. New York City's finest, The
Rosewood Thieves will also be joining the band. With a
rabid following spreading up and down the West Coast,
fans should keep their eyes and ears out for Lemon Sun,
before this hot, little secret burns its way into every stereo
around.
With seemingly every reason to call it quits in music,
including a revolving door of bands and members, Chris
Knight and Rob Kolar started Lemon Sun in 2005, after
10 years of playing music together, simply as a recording
project to keep busy. Cue Michael Shapiro, an old
guitar student of Kolar's, as the starry-eyed, guitar player
who packed up the car and headed West in hopes of
fulfilling the American, rock-n-roll dream. A phone call
from the side of the road, asking Kolar if he knew anyone
starting a band sealed the deal, and the Lemon Sun of
today was beginning to pour its tasty rays over the
horizon. Add Nick Rucker on the drum kit, which brings
the driving force and sweet, sexual sound to the band.
The odd man out in the band is, well, not even a man at
all. Replying to a Craigslist add for a "guitarist/singer who
can also play piano", Melissa Dougherty fit the bill
perfectly, boasting an extensive resume, and appeared to
stand out like a vibrant lime in this pile of Lemons.
Thankfully, her guitar playing shreds harder than a
blender, and helps mix the ingredients of Lemon Sun into
their own version of a rock-n-roll cocktail, sure to leave
you with a blistering hangover in the morning.
Lemon Sun carry an essential swagger along with their
melodic hooks and bring a contagious energy to every
live performance. Their involvement with local bands
and the growing Southern California music movement
has helped them become an integral part of the ever
growing and changing Los Angeles music scene.
