The Orchestrated Loons
The Orchestrated Loons Since forming in the Fall of 2006, The Orchestrated Loons have been a welcome change of pace within the Midwestern music scene. The Loons consist of Jeff Broman (Keyboards/Vocals), Dusty Carlson (Bass/Vocals), Rich Cochran (Guitar/Vocals), and Jeff "Lurch" Loehrke (Drums). While attending Western Illinois University, the band mates met and quickly developed great friendships on both musical and personal levels. Their friendship and mutual respect for one another is apparent on stage and the positive vibes are frequently transferred to the audience. The Loons primarily perform original music, but one can expect to be surprised at each show by a couple quirky covers. Their sound is characterized by deep drum and bass grooves with improvisatory work by the guitars and keyboards interwoven with intricate instrumental passages. Each vocalist offers a fresh and distinct sound. Some of the lyric content is dark and unusual and also bright and eccentric. There is a storytelling element to many of the songs while other lyrics present more abstract imagery. To draw a comparison with other well-known acts, The Orchestrated Loons could bedescribed as a mix of Frank Zappa, Wilco, Ween, Radiohead, and Phish. Since their Inception, the band has had a steady performance schedule at festivals and clubs around the Midwest. In the near future, the Loons look foreword to expanding their already impressive fan base and branching out to other corners of the country.
