Since their formation in late 2004, Leslie has been busy. Hailing from Charleston, South Carolina, the rock trio consists of Sadler Vaden (vocals, guitar) Jason Fox (bass) and Jonathan Carman (drums). They have toured the Southeast extensively, performing throughout the Midwest and Northeast to equal over 500 shows played to date. With a sound that has been described as being both familiar and refreshing, Leslie has been compared to bands like The Who, Tom Petty, Jet and Humble Pie.
While each member is in his early 20’s, it is 21-year-old Leslie frontman Vaden who is often credited with being uniquely talented beyond his years. Jim Reed from Connect Savannah calls Vaden, “a guitarist/frontman who sings blue-eyed soul with a ferocity and familiarity that’s at odds with his tender youth.” In addition to collaborating with songwriters such as Angelo Patraglia (Kings of Leon), Will Hoge, and Sammy James (Mooney Suzuki),Vaden proves his musical maturity and raw guitar and vocal style to be one of Leslie’s best assets. Jack Hunter from Graffiti Magazine says, “Frontman Sadler Vaden is – to be blunt – a musical bad-ass who can play guitar better than most musicians twice his age. Add good songs and an appealing voice to boot and you've got one hell of a rock band with nowhere to go but up.”
Although Vaden has received much acclaim for his original style, it is the connection between Vaden, Fox and Carman that creates Leslie's distinctive sound. Fox's ragged low end is no doubt the band's anchor and acts as the perfect fit for Carman. Matt Wake at The Bootleg states, "A devotee of iconic timekeepers like John Bonham and Keith Moon, Carman gives Leslie a barbed-wire backbeat." Carman’s punk rock background adds another dimension to Leslie, a factor that has not gone unnoticed. "With a sound that incorporates the jangle of late 60's garage pop, the lush aesthetics of Britpop, the fury of early punk rock and the bluesy nirvana of 60's rockers, Leslie has the ability to appeal to a variety of tastes." - Matthew Maynard, SE Performer Magazine.
While their relentless touring schedule has made the band old pros at an early age, Leslie has managed to introduce themselves to fans of tried-and-true rock and those searching for something new, different and daring. CMJ calls the band "Loud, messy blues-rock with enough swagger to even get the most jaded fist pumping" (2006). Through exciting, energetic performances Leslie showcases both the depth of the classics and the sprit of youth.
